Important Reminders For Grandparents’ Day

As a reminder, guests coming to the school tomorrow for students in Kindergarten – 5th grade are asked to enter via the GYM.  The doors will open at 9:45am.

Please remember to tell your visitor(s) which teacher(s) your child/ren have so that our volunteers can easily direct them to the correct classrooms following the assembly.

Grandparents WITH A HANDICAP PERMIT OR WITH SPECIAL PARKING NEEDS may park in the staff lot in front of the school breezeway.  Please tell guests they can park in the Church lots and make them aware of the change in parking on OTIS street.

Middle school students can be dismissed anytime after 11:30am tomorrow to leave with a grandparent (or special guest) visiting a younger sibling, however a note must be sent to the teacher tomorrow regarding the special dismissal.

Grandparents of middle school students are welcome to come from 11:15 – 11:45am.  They will enter via the main office entrance and volunteers will be on hand to help direct them to the appropriate Middle School classroom (please keep in mind that middle school classrooms are upstairs and we do not have elevators in our building).  Please let them know that students will not be in their homeroom (and therefore they cannot go up) prior to 11:15am.  A note must be sent to the teacher in the morning.

All K – 5th grade students should come in regular uniform tomorrow (no gym uniforms).

12:05PM Dismissal Tomorrow

For students not going home with a grandparent or special person tomorrow:

If your child will be going to aftercare, please remember they will need a lunch from home as no hot lunch is served on early dismissal days.

If your child is going to the walkers line for pickup, we will be OUTSIDE in the lot by the Pre-Kindergarten tomorrow for dismissal.  The gym will be set up for a staff training session and will not be available for dismissal.

Cross Country Meet Change & Important Info

The last XC meet of the regular season will be held today (Thursday) at Illing Middle School in Manchester.  Please note, this is a change from the originally published venue (originally scheduled to be held at Elizabeth Park in Hartford).  The Cross Country Calendar on our school website has been updated to reflect the change.  Students should arrive at Illing for 3:15pm to stretch and walk the course with Coach O’Neill.  The meet will begin at 4:00pm.

Students advancing to run in the Middle School State Competition (approximately 7 of our runners) will be notified by Coach O’Neill.  All 5th grade runners and those not advancing to states are asked to hand wash (and line dry) their uniform and return it to Mrs. O’Neill in a baggie (labeled with the child’s name) sometime next week.  Please remember there is a charge if the uniform is not returned to the school.

Cheerleading For 4th Grade Girls

We have several 5th – 8th grade students interested in Cheerleading for SJS (thank you to the parents that filled out our form!).

We are now looking to see how many 4th grade girls would be interested and available to participate on the squad.   Fourth grade parents are asked to use the form below to let us know if your daughter would like to participate in Cheerleading for SJS and what their availability (right after school and on Saturdays) would be.

We also still need a few parent/grandparent volunteers who would be willing to assist the squad during after school practices and at games.  You don’t have to have a daughter on the squad to help (our volunteer cheer coach has a 1st grader).
