SJS Christmas Store – Volunteers Needed

The Christmas Store – a much loved tradition at Saint James School – will be up and running Wednesday, November 28th – Friday, November 30th.  During this time, students will be able to shop for inexpensive items for their family.  Every year our students are so excited to pick out something special for their loved ones and parents/grandparents, etc. love unwrapping what the children pick out for them on Christmas morning.

The Christmas Store is such a popular event each year, we are in need of several Parent Volunteers to help staff  it.  Even if you can come help out for a couple of hours, we would appreciate it!  Volunteers are needed Wednesday (11/28), Thursday (11/29), and Friday (11/30).  The store hours are 8:00am-2:00pm Wednesday & Thursday and 8:00am-12:00pm on Friday.

To sign up for a volunteer time slot, please e-mail our wonderful parent coordinator who puts together this event each year – Stacy Helin at schelin@aol.com.

Classroom Volunteers Needed

Hi SJS Parents, the following e-mail was sent out a week ago looking for classroom volunteers for Junior Achievement Day.  So far we have only had one parent volunteer sign up (in addition to Nick).  Can anyone else help out?

Junior Achievement is a volunteer-delivered, K-12 program that educates children about money management and how “the real world” works.  The goal is to empower young people to own their economic success by showing them the importance of education and developing financial literacy skills.  A specific Junior Achievement program is tailored to each grade, each one building on the information from the year before.

Saint James School will host a Junior Achievement Day for our students on November 16th.

We are still in need of volunteers to help bring this program to all grades and classes at the school.  Volunteers have a lot of fun and bring their own experiences into the classroom along with pre-prepared materials from Junior Achievement. Volunteers can be a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, family friend, etc.

Saint James School board member (and SJS Parent) Nicholas Roy has participated in the program at our school for the past 2 years and has offered to speak with anyone interested to tell them more about how the program works.  Nicholas can be reached at nick@somniofg.com or Tel: 860.430.5502.

Please consider volunteering or calling on a family member who you think would like to volunteer in the classroom for a day.  Our VIRTUS training and school background check documentation is not required to participate  (Junior Achievement takes care of the background check for us).

Also, please note, a lot of companies give their employees paid time off to participate in this program.  Please check with your employer to see if your company participates.

Early Dismissals, Closings, and Delays

Just a reminder in light of  the very last minute early dismissal notice we received from the town yesterday:

Please take a moment to sign up for text and/or e-mail alerts from the Channel 3 or Channel 30 alert systems.

Notification to these alert systems is submitted directly from the Town of Manchester, which makes the decision if we are closed, delayed or being dismissed early.  Yesterday, the text notification that we were closing early was sent out even before our main office was notified.  Signing up for text or e-mail alerts from either of these systems is the absolute fastest way for parents to know what is going on.

To Sign Up For Channel 3 Text or e-mail alerts Click Here (please select Manchester Public Schools for school closings)

OR

To Sign up for Channel 30 Text or e-mail alerts Click Here (please select Manchester Public Schools for school closings)

We are also working hard to update the school website as soon as we get the information, so please remember to check online too.

Many thanks to our parents, grandparents, guardians, and family emergency contacts for your patience and understanding yesterday!
