Main Street Scarecrow Helpers

This year, Saint James School is again entering the annual Downtown Scarecrow Festival. We are looking for volunteers to help create a worthy family-friendly SJS scarecrow which will be on display lining Main St. from October 14th through October 28th.
First, Second and Third Place prizes will be awarded in both the People’s Choice and Facebook Favorites categories. Each year between 30 and 35 scarecrows are on display. This is a great way to show our SJS spirit!
Scarecrows are to be installed by the artists in an assigned location between October 11th and October 14th. If you are willing to lend a hand, some supplies or an idea, please contact Andrea Piotrowski at ampiotrowski@yahoo.com.  We may have a short meeting once we get everyone’s availability. Thank you!

Congratulations SJS XC!

Bagpipe Lessons Info Session

As an informational FYI, the Manchester Pipe Band is hosting an open house on Friday October 13th at 6PM at the Lutz Children’s Museum, 247 S Main Street, Manchester.  Come learn about tuition-free lessons provided on a weekly basis in traditional bagpiping and drumming.

Piping and drumming has been taught in Manchester for generations, and is a highly worthwhile activity for children who are looking to apply artistic ambitions, develop individual expression, and work as a team-member – all while being involved in the community. The Manchester Pipe Band’s team of instructors is among the best in the country, and features local, national, and international prizewinners.

Here’s what to expect at the open house for the Kids:  Introductory Activities, Give the Instruments a try, Try on a Kilt

Here’s what to expect at the open house for the Parents:  Program introduction by instructors, Frequently Asked Questions, Parent Testimonials, and Sign-up, light refreshments

Student Helpers Needed – SJS Children’s Masses

Thank you to everyone who responded to our request a few weeks ago for students in Grades 3 – 8 to participate in Sunday Mass at St. James Church.  This is a great chance for our church parishioners – many of whom very generously support our school – to see the some of the wonderful students they are investing in.

We have our student readers all scheduled, but are still in need of Gift Bearers & Greeters for many of the masses.  Please take a look at the dates below and let us know if your child is able to help out in either capacity (you do not need to be a parishioner at St. James Church to have your child help/attend).

All Children’s Masses are at 9:00 am the 2nd Sunday of each month through June and are listed below:

September 10, 2017
October 8, 2017
November 12, 2017
December 10, 2017
January 14, 2018
February 11, 2018
March 11, 2017
April 8, 2018
May 13, 2018
June 10, 2018

If you are interested, please send an email to Cindy Herr at cndherr@cox.net listing the parent’s name, student’s name, participation preference, and Mass dates that you are available to attend.

Thank you for your consideration!
