Christmas Wreath Sale

Decorate your homes early for the holiday season!  The HSA is running its annual wreath sale.  Please consider purchasing wreaths through our fundraiser.  Once your order is placed, we will send home your redeemable coupon(s) with your child.  You can pick up your wreaths as early as November 20th at Botticello Farms (209 Hillstown Rd, Manchester).  Orders must be placed no later than Friday, December 14th.  (Coupons must be redeemed by December 18th.)

Wreaths are available in 3 ring sizes. Choose from plain, with a bow, or a fully decorated wreath. The popular kissing balls are also available!

Remember, the earlier you place your order – the sooner you will receive your coupons.

To place an order, please complete the order form (found here) and send it to school with payment of exact cash or checks payable to Saint James School.  Return orders & payment to the school office in an envelope marked “HSA Christmas Wreath Sale.” Any questions, contact Jackie Smith, jacqmsmith@gmail.com.

SJS Shines at Szopka Competition

This weekend, students that participated in the Polish Nativity Castle (“Szopka”) Club attended the 38th annual Szopka competition at the Polish Cultural Club in Hartford.  Saint James School students, with much guidance from middle school teacher Ms. Carol Oleasz, took 1st – 3rd place and honorable mention in this year’s competition.  The winners were are follows:

1st place: Maya Fisher & Jameson Fisher

2nd place (tie):  Molly Melia & Clara Covill;  Fabrizia S.

3rd Place: Ryan Chacaga, Drew Burnham, & David LaMonica

Honorable Mention:  Stefaniya Barbieri, Madeline Dube, & Annabelle K.

The Szopka Krakowska, or “nativity scene”, is a Christmas tradition originating from Krakow, Poland and dating back to the 19th century.  Though commonly called “Christmas Cribs” in English, they look more like castles or cathedrals and depict the Nativity of Jesus.  Saint James School has been involved with this cultural tradition for many years and members of the Polish Cultural Club look forward to seeing our students’ submissions each year.

Gratitude Video

As you know we recently finished covering our 2nd “Virtue of the Month,” which was Gratitude.  Just before Thanksgiving, we randomly selected students to read one of their gratitude writings on video.  If you missed this Facebook post (shared last week), please take a moment to check our Gratitude video: #attitudeofgratitude. And, be sure to stay tuned in until the end for a special message!

Boys Varsity Opener

The SJS boys Varsity Gold team opened their season this past weekend in the Holy Trinity Tournament in Wallingford. The boys played 5 games over the weekend and played strong throughout to earn a spot in the finals.  Despite leading at halftime in the championship game, the boys ended up losing 44-36 vs. St. Bridget of Cheshire.  The boys played great, showed great SJS sportsmanship, and took home a second place trophy.  A great start to the season for Saint James School basketball!
