SJS Spirit Day

Teacher Appreciation Week Continues

Please join us tomorrow (Wednesday, May 6th) for another SPIRIT DAY in honor of our wonderful teachers!   While we cannot be together in person right now, we are blessed to be part of this strong community with a great spirit.  And, our teachers have really shined during this unprecedented time.

Tomorrow we are asking students to dress in Blue & Gold, SJS Spiritwear, or their school uniform – for distance learning.    If you would like to email us pictures, we would love to share them with our community.

Please send them to aguenther@saintjamesschool.net by 2:00pm tomorrow.

Some other ideas suggested by the HSA to honor our teachers during this time are as follows:

Thursday: Have your child make a Thank You Poster or Card and email a picture to your child’s teacher.

Friday: Chalk your driveway and send a picture to the teacher (with your child in the picture).

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher appreciation week begins TODAY! While we can’t be together in person this year, our Home & School Association has come up with some easy ideas to help spread the love all week long:

Monday: Email your child’s teacher with a favorite “Classroom Memory” that your child has shared with you this year.

Tuesday: Students dress in their homeroom teacher’s favorite color (see below).  If there is no video call on this day, email the picture to the teacher.

Wednesday: SJS Spiritwear Day!

Thursday: Have your child make a Thank You Poster or Card and email a picture to your child’s teacher.

Friday: Chalk your driveway and send a picture to the teacher (with your child in the picture).

May is the Month of Mary

As Mrs. Zorger mentioned in this morning’s video, during the month of May it is customary to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary with special prayers and celebrations.  Once such celebration that we have always done here at SJS is the Crowing of Mary during our May Rosary, where our 2nd graders would place flowers by the feet of Mary’s statue and a special crown of roses atop her head.

If you are looking for special ways to honor Mary at home this weekend or throughout the month of May, there are many great ideas and suggestions in THIS BLOG POST from Catholic Icing.

Virtue of the Month Video

This morning we sent out a Virtue of the Month Update video from Mrs. Zorger.  If you did not see the email, please share the video below with your student(s) at your convenience.

Distance Learning Protocol & Reminders

As we continue to progress with distance learning, there are some clarifications we would like for you to share with your child/ren, particularly the older students who are working in an area where you are not with them.  It is very important that we maximize the face-to-face time we have together, particularly where the purpose of the call is to teach a lesson and gauge the students’ understanding.

Homeroom teachers in grades 5-8 will also be sending this information to their students (see link below or click graphic above), but it would be helpful for you to review it with them too so there are no surprises. Students who fail to follow these guidelines will be given a warning by their teacher and may be removed from class if a disruptive behavior continues.

Chore Chart

Since our children may have more free time on their hands with sports and evening activities being cancelled, we thought it might be useful to share this “Chore Chart” to help understand where kids can be helping around the house based on their age:

SJS Social Worker & Other Resources

Just a quick reminder for parents, if you have questions regarding your child’s emotional and physical well-being during this time or if your child needs someone to talk to, you can still reach out to our social worker, Mrs. Cate Jennings, at cjennings@saintjamesschool.net and she will get back to you.
