Reminder: Honoring our Veterans

While Saint James School will not be in session on Veteran’s Day this year, it remains very important to us that we honor those who have served and continue to serve our country.   It is also important that our students understand and truly appreciate the sacrifices made by our military families.

To help accomplish this objective, our Veteran’s Day Committee will have small flags that students can purchase on Thursday, November 10th for a (minimum) $1.00 donation.  Money collected will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.  We ask that students place these flags in their front yard on Friday, November 11th in honor of our nation’s veterans.

Additionally, this week we would like for students that have (or had) a family member in the military to bring in a picture of that individual with information on the branch in which they served, the years of service, and any deployments they were part of (if applicable).  If you would prefer to email the picture and information, you can send that to Amy Guenther at aguenther@saintjamesschool.net.  We will use these pictures to create a “Wall of Honor” in our breezeway that students can look at when passing through.

Thank you for your help with this important initiative for our school.

Important: Dismissal Notice

Due to a busing conflict with the town, Saint James School has decided we will dismiss ALL students at 11:00am (instead of 12:05pm) on Wednesday, November 23rd – the day before Thanksgiving Recess –  AND Friday, December 23rd – the day before Christmas Recess.   Aftercare WILL be in session on both these days starting at 11:00am.  Please update your calendars accordingly.

Reminder: Our Lady of Fatima Statue Tomorrow

In honor of the 105th anniversary of the Mother of God appearing to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima is currently on tour throughout the United States.  Hundreds of favors and graces, including cures and conversions, are associated with the image.

This Holy statue will be on display at St. James Church on Friday, November 4th from 8:00am – 8:30pm.  All families are invited to come hear the story of Fatima and experience the presence of Our Lady. The initial procession with the statue will take place at 8:00am.  At 6:30pm the statue’s custodian will give a special lecture for the parish community.

We are excited to share that Saint James School’s 5th – 8th grade students will also take part in this special day from 10:00am – 11:00am. Several students will be chosen to process in and place roses in a vase at the statue’s feet. Immediately following, the statue’s custodian will give a short lecture for students and others in attendance. The hour will conclude with everyone praying the Rosary.
