STEM Club Update
Please note that grade 2 STEM Club is full
Reminder From the Nurse
Parents of Grade 5 & 7 Girls AND Grade 8 Boys:
Each school year scoliosis screenings are conducted by the school nurse during scheduled gym classes for grades 5 & 7 Girls and Grade 8 Boys.
Two weeks ago letters regarding this screening were sent home with your son/daughter in these grades. Parents must complete the form indicating whether or not they give permission for the student to be screened.
Please send the completed document back to the school nurse directly or send back via your student by March 31st. If you need a new form, please reach out to our nurse, Mrs. Pennington.
2nd Grade STEM Club
STEM Club will be held on Monday, March 27 for students in Grade 2. Please complete the permission slip if your child would like to attend.
Reminder: This Week’s Schedule
Saint James School will have 12:05pm dismissal this coming Wednesday (3/22) and Thursday (3/23) for parent/teacher conferences. Aftercare WILL be in session both days, please remember students will need to bring lunch from home if they are going to aftercare (no hot lunch is served on early dismissal days).
For bus students, please note that due to our shortened day tomorrow (Wednesday) we will have all of our buses.
Additionally, there is NO SCHOOL this Friday (3/24) as our teachers will be attending an offsite Catholic Educators’ Conference.
Attention Parents
As a reminder for parents that pick-up at 2:00pm, if you are allowing your children to play on our back grassy area at afternoon pick-up, please ensure that they stay clear of our 9/11 prayer garden and the cut up logs in the back area. Thank you.
Tomorrow: $1.00 “Rock Your Socks” Day
Saint James School is pleased to share that our school library has been gifted several books about Down Syndrome by the Down Syndrome Association of Connecticut. Their book donation program is designed to better educate local children about Down Syndrome and help raise awareness. Mrs. Tierney will be sharing age-appropriate information and stories with her classes next week during their library. SJS was nominated to receive the book donation by the Hanson family, whose oldest daughter Abigail attends our middle school.
To support the organization that gifted us the books and help them further their mission, we would like to invite all students and staff to wear ‘Mismatched Socks’ to school tomorrow – Tuesday, March 21st – for a minimum $1.00 donation. Money collected will be donated to the Down Syndrome Association of Connecticut.
Here is some information about Down Syndrome and WDSD:
JV Basketball Banquet Tomorrow
As a reminder, our JV basketball teams will have their end-of-season pizza party & awards banquet tomorrow during school (the 6th grade boys’ team and our two JV girls’ teams). Students on our 3 JV teams may wear their SJS basketball jersey to school tomorrow (must have a shirt under it) with their regular Tuesday uniform bottoms.
Hot Lunch Update
We have been notified by the town of Manchester that the state’s extension of the Free Hot Lunch Program WILL apply to Saint James School for the remainder of this school year. We do anticipate that there will be a charge for hot lunch purchases NEXT YEAR so if you have already put money in your child’s account (since we were originally notified the free lunch program was ending) please allow that to carry forward to next year.
For any families whose child is graduating or not returning to SJS, if you have already put money in their hot lunch account, please reach out to Mrs. Guenther in June regarding the refunding of that money from the town.
