Ash Wednesday Prayer Service

On Wednesday, February 22nd, Saint James School will host a prayer service in our gymnasium to mark the start of Lent.  Please note that students will receive ashes during this service.

Midwinter Recess Starts Tomorrow

As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow (Friday 2/17), Monday (2/20), and Tuesday (2/21) for our Midwinter Recess.  We will see everyone back at school on Wednesday, February 22nd.

SJS Varsity Basketball at ECHS Tonight

This evening (2/16) all families are invited to join us as our girls and boys Varsity teams play St. Bridget at EAST CATHOLIC High School.  There is plenty of seating at the ECHS gymnasium so we are hoping to see many SJS faces at the game to cheer on the players!  Girls play at 6:00pm, followed by the boys at 7:15pm.  Our cheerleaders will also be cheering during the first game.

Lenten Rice Bowls

Lent is a time for us to make self-sacrifices in order to aid others.  Our faith calls on us to make this a priority and, as such, we are once again participating in the Lenten Rice Bowl program through Catholic Relief Services.

This week our Pre-K through Grade 8 students should have received their “Rice Bowls” from their homeroom teacher. The goal is for students to earn change (for acts of kindness or other tasks performed at home) to put into the rice bowl.  Money collected will then be donated to Catholic Relief Services to help fight hunger and malnutrition around the globe.  You can visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos and learn more.

If your family will be participating, please note that Rice Bowls are due back to homeroom teachers by the week of April 3rd.

Tomorrow: Valentine’s Day Dress Down

In honor of Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, Saint James School students and staff may dress down tomorrow (2/14) for a $1.00 donation to the American Heart Association.  Dollars should be brought in to school on Tuesday and given to the homeroom teacher.  Dress down tops must be red, white, pink, or purple to match the theme.  Bottoms may be (non-ripped) jeans or sweatpants.  Please remember all standard dress down guidelines from the handbook apply.

Varsity Games This Week

With our basketball season starting to wind down, we have some great Varsity Basketball games coming up this week and everyone is welcome to join us to cheer on our Sabers!

Wednesday (2/15) is Senior Night, honoring our 8th grade players.  Girls play at 6:00pm on our home court followed by the boys playing at 7:15pm.

The following evening (Thursday, 2/16) our girls and boys Varsity teams will play St. Bridget at EAST CATHOLIC High School.  There is plenty of seating at the ECHS gymnasium so we are hoping to see many SJS faces at the game to cheer on the players!  Girls play at 6:00pm, followed by the boys at 7:15pm.

Uniform Policy Reminders

Mrs. Zorger shared a reminder this morning with students about required uniform attire and dress code.  Please make sure your student(s) are in compliance:

* Tan uniform pants MUST be purchased from Lands’ End or Dennis Uniform Company and may only be the style of pants listed under our school’s uniform code.

* Hair must not be dyed, highlighted, or bleached.  Boys’ hair must not touch their shirt collar and must not cover their ears or eyebrows.

* The following jewelry is allowed: one watch, one ring, one bracelet, one thin chain necklace with or without a cross.
— Smart watches are NOT allowed.
— Girls are allowed one pair of post earrings worn in the earlobes.

* Shirts must be tucked in.

Church Helper Needed

We are looking for an additional volunteer to rehearse Mass readings and general intercessions with our students in advance of our monthly school Masses.   This could be a Catholic parent or grandparent that has flexibility during the school day as they would need to be with us prior to, and during, the Masses.

If you know of someone who would be willing to help, please have them reach out to Mrs. Zorger.
