SJS Guest Speakers At Area Churches

We are looking for student and/or parent volunteers to represent SJS at their “home” church this January.  Catholic churches that do not have their own parish school (such as those in Bolton, South Windsor, Glastonbury, Coventry, etc.,) have traditionally allowed for a parishioner to speak at the conclusion of Mass about our school and promote our upcoming Open House events during Catholic School’s Week.

If your student/family may be willing to help, please reach out to Amy Guenther at aguenther@saintjamesschool or (860) 643.5088 (option 8 on the automated menu) to learn more.

As always, we sincerely thank you for your support.

Instrumental Music Notice

Instrumental Music lessons normally held on Fridays will take place on Thursday this week.  Mr. Corcoran will not be in on Friday so all students should bring their instruments this Thursday.

Reminder: Morning Drop-off & Pick-up

During the past several weeks we have received complaints from some of our neighbors regarding:

The blocking of driveways during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up;

The blocking of trash cans and recycle bins at the curb on Friday mornings (meaning the trash/recycles doesn’t get picked up); and

Speeding through area roads/not fully stopping at stop signs (specifically at Chestnut and Park Street, where students are out waiting for buses).

While we appreciate that most of our parents/caregivers are considerate of our neighbors and school zone regulations, we need everyone to be on the same page.

If you are having trouble finding a place to park in the morning or afternoon, please utilize the SJS parking lot or park in marked spots at St. James Church.  If you are running late, please do not compromise the safety of others.

Please pass this along to everyone who brings your child/ren to school and/or picks them up.  As always, we thank you for your efforts to make our school the best it can be.

Basketball Games Tonight

There will be three home basketball games tonight at Saint James School – at 5:30pm, 6:30pm, and 7:30pm.  Come on out and cheer on the SABERS!

Student Early Dismissal Communication

At the request of our teachers, if your child is being dismissed early from school for an appointment, please try to send an email to the teacher the evening before or send a note to school with your student – particularly on the upper floor where students are switching classes. While we understand it is sometimes hard to get appointments outside of school time, it can be very disruptive to teaching time when students need to get into their desks/lockers to get their books to go home.  If the student/teacher are aware of the dismissal, they can be prepared ahead of time. Thank you for helping with this request.

Save the Date – Family Paint Night

The HSA is hosting its first ever SJS Family Paint Night!  Mark your calendars for Friday, January 25 and join in the fun of creating Valentine’s day themed paintings.  Additional details will be sent out after the holidays (If you are subscribed to the full SJS calendar, the event will automatically be updated on your calendar when it refreshes).

Morning Drop-off Reminder & Parking Lot Use

Morning drop-off seemed to be more efficient this morning, thank you for making the most of our available spaces!

When using the “Drop & Go” line to drop off your student(s) in the morning, please remember to pull all the way up in front of the school (just don’t block the crosswalk).  The goal is not to limit the drop-off area to just the 5 car lengths in front of the breezeway — we want to utilize the entire length of that curb if possible.

Parents may also utilize the parking lot between the main school and the Pre-K at morning drop-off.

Reconciliation Tomorrow

Catholic students in grades 3 – 8 will participate in reconciliation tomorrow at Saint James Church.  Please make sure they have warm coats and hats to walk down and back.
