Remote Learning Expectations

As a reminder, if your student is moving to remote learning for a day or a period of time, the expectations for remote learners can be found on our FALL 2020 informational page, which has a link on our school  website.  Remote learner expectations can also be viewed HERE.

SJS Scarecrow Wins 3rd

We are happy to announce that our SJS Scarecrow – Gru and His Minions – won 3rd place in the Facebook Favorite competition (out of the 45 scarecrows on Main Street).  Thank you to everyone who voted!

Health & Safety Reminder

It seems COVID-19 cases are back on the rise in our area, so I want to take another opportunity to stress the importance of remaining vigilant in daily activities and ask parents to continue to err on the side of caution when it comes to sending your child/ren to school.

I also want to remind everyone:  If your child is involved with an activity where there has been a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, and you have been told your child needs to quarantine, that means your child needs to quarantine from the school building for that same amount of time and participate in remote learning, not just that activity.

Along the same line, with Halloween upon us this weekend, I ask you to please continue to be vigilant when it comes to getting together with family and friends.

Thank you again for your support as we navigate this school year with both an abundance of optimism and a heavy dose of caution.  We certainly consider ourselves a family here at Saint James School and want to ensure that every member remains healthy and well.

Mrs. Fitzgerald’s Classroom Wins Contest

Congratulations to Mrs. Fitzgerald for winning the “Duck Brand Sticks With Education” contest, which asked teachers to showcase their creative use of Duck-brand products in the classroom.  As the winner, Mrs. Fitzgerald’s classroom will be receiving years’ worth of school supplies valued at $2,000 in the form of $500 worth of supplies from The Duck Brand and an additional $1,500 in gift cards!  Way to go Mrs. Fitzgerald!

School Back in Session Monday

Thank you to everyone for being flexible with our unexpected, quick pivot to remote learning today.  As noted in last night’s email, the building will be thoroughly cleaned and “fogged” this evening, and we anticipate classes will back in the building on Monday (with the exception of the cohort that will be remote learning).

For all grades that will be returning back to the school building on Monday, if you would prefer that your student move to remote learning for a period of time, we welcome you to make that change by reaching out to your child’s teacher over the weekend.

Also, if you have not yet downloaded the SJS App – which we can use to send a last-minute notification to your phone – now might be a good time to do so.  Information regarding the App can be found in the October Saber Stories Newsletter (link at the bottom of this email) and we have added the informational link back into the bottom of the daily email.

Please be sure you say “YES” to receiving notifications.

SJS Masks are In!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Mask Fundraiser!  The masks are in and will be sent home with in-person learners on Monday.

Together we raised $900 for Saint James School via this fundraiser!  Thank you again for your support!

Early Dismissal Day Again Tomorrow

As a reminder, Saint James School will have a 12:05pm dismissal day again tomorrow – Friday, 10/23.  Aftercare will be in session, however students attending aftercare will need to bring a lunch from home (no hot lunch is served on early dismissal days).

School Bus Clarification

In light of COVID and health and safety protocol, the bus company has informed us that students are NOT permitted to take the bus to another student’s house this year.  If your child needs to get together with another student for a project, you will need to pick them up at afternoon dismissal.

Important Fall Parent/Teacher Conference Information

Please note the following important information regarding this week’s parent/teacher conferences:

* Please make sure you are using your name or your child’s name for your Zoom ID so the teacher knows who is in the waiting room.

* Please be on time for your conference.  Teachers will be holding firm to the 15 minute time allotment.

* The teacher will be in a secure, private area for the conference.  Please ensure that you are doing the same on your end.
