4th Grade Engineering Challenge

Last week, Saint James School 4th Grade students completed and presented their Gingerbread Man Trap project.  Combining creativity, engineering skills, and of course, a lot of fun, 4th grade Science teacher, Mrs. Devanney, challenged students to create a trap that could catch and hold a gingerbread man.  Students came up with all kinds of fun ways to lure the gingerbread man into the trap, and a wide variety of ways to keep him from escaping.  Here are some pictures of the students with their creations and some of the students presenting to their classmates:

Cards for the Troops

A couple of our basketball teams recently sent cards and blankets to the troops overseas.  Our Kindergarten students as well as a couple of other grades, also sent cards for these men and women who can’t be with their families this Christmas.  Here is a picture that was sent back in from a group stationed in Kuwait.

IMPORTANT:

Due to the impending snow this afternoon and evening:

  • Tonight’s 4th & 5th Grade basketball games are cancelled (after school bball practices from 2-4pm are still on);

  • Tonight’s Middle School Dance at St. Bridget’s is cancelled (new date for the dance TBA);

  • AFTERCARE WILL BE CLOSING AT 4:00PM TODAY.

Christmas Collection Due Tomorrow

Our Saint James School Student Council will be collecting donations to help bring some “Comfort and Joy” to tweens and teens in Manchester this Christmas season.

The gifts we collect will be passed on to MACC Charities to distribute at their annual Christmas party and will specifically be used for kids aged 10 – 14.

If you are able to help, your donation will be greatly appreciated; According to MACC, the kids they deal with in this age group are often fending for themselves for things like food, clothing, and toiletries.

Suggested donations that would be beneficial for these kids (as per MACC) are:

  • Gift Cards for Walgreens or Cumberland Farms (in walking distance from Illing & MHS)
  • Gift Cards for Walmart or Target
  • iTunes Gift Cards or Ear Buds
  • Art Supplies (i.e. such as adult coloring books and colored pencils, pens)

(Please do NOT donate sports equipment such as footballs, basketballs, etc.)

If you are able to donate, please have your student bring in the items to their homeroom teacher by December 15th.  Each homeroom will have a special box for collecting donations.

Tree of Blessings Due Tomorrow

Saint James School is hosting our 15th Annual Tree of Blessings Ceremony to honor loved ones and remember those who have passed. A prayer service will then be held on December 20th at 8:15am and the students of Saint James School will honor all those whose names appear on the tree. Please feel free to join us at this very special Service in the gym.

Ornaments are available for only a minimal donation of $5, with proceeds benefiting our school. Simply fill out the form below and return it with payment by Friday, December 15th.
