Friday: $1.00+ Comfy Clothes/PJ Dress Down for CCMC

Tomorrow – December 9th – students may wear “comfy” clothes (sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts) or weather- & school-appropriate PJs to school for a minimum $1.00 donation.  All money collected, which should come to school with the student on Friday, and will benefit the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

CCMC’s annual PJ day, which many schools and businesses across the state participate in, helps not only raise money for a great cause, but is in honor of all the brave kids fighting cancer at Connecticut Children’s and elsewhere.

Please remember, students must adhere to the all Saint James School dress down guidelines (noted in the school handbook) and PJs/attire must have sleeves (short sleeves are okay) & long pants. Also, no slippers due to safety concerns.  Leggings are allowed provided a top is worn that falls to the top of the thighs or lower.

Book & Art Club (Gr 3&4)

Mrs. Carpenter and Mrs. Rafferty will host a Book & Art Club after school on December 22nd for students in grades 3 and 4.  If your student is interested in participating, please complete the permission slip below and send it back to the main office with your student.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass

Today our 1st – 8th grade students celebrated Mass with Father Jaime for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  Forth grade student, Edward H., did a wonderful job with the readings and our middle school students – as always – were helpful buddies for their younger peers.

HSA Meeting Tonight

The Saint James School HSA will hold its monthly meeting tonight – Wednesday, December 7th – at 6:00pm in the school cafeteria. All parents/guardians/grandparents of SJS students are welcome to attend. When you arrive at the school for the meeting, please ring the buzzer to the left of the breezeway door and meet us in the Cafeteria.

Reminder: SJS Pure Vida Bracelets

Looking for a special Christmas gift or a fun way to show your SJS spirit? While supplies last, we will be selling custom SJS blue and gold Pura Vida bracelets (limited quantities available). Bracelets are waterproof and adjustable from 2-5″ in diameter.  Each bracelet costs $10 and will be available for purchase in the SJS main office or through Kid Mail.  If purchasing as a Christmas gift and using Kid Mail, please put “attention SJS office” on the outside of the envelope and enclose a note with your payment that the bracelet(s) are a gift.  We will send the bracelet home via your student in a sealed envelope.  Checks should be made out to “Saint James School HSA”.

St. Nicholas’ Feast Day

In keeping with tradition, our Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd Grade students left one shoe outside their classroom yesterday morning in celebration of St. Nicholas Day (Feast Day of St. Nicholas).  More commonly observed in Northern Europe, St. Nicholas Day is celebrated by attending Mass and leaving a shoe by the fireplace, in which children later find a treat or gift (the origin of our American Christmas stockings).

Ski Club

If any other students (Grades 3 – 8) would like to participate in this year’s SJS Ski Club, we have a few spots left on the bus.  Please reach out to Amy Guenther at aguenther@saintjamesschool.net for information.

Last Call: UConn Basketball Games

Our HSA has organized two SJS family fun days at the XL Center, cheering on the UConn Huskies.  There is a men’s game and a women’s game to choose from – or attend both!  Please refer to the flyer below and RSVP by December 7th.  We hope to see you there!
