Reminder: Read Across America Day

There will be an optional “Story Book Character” Dress Up Day for students in Pre-K through 4th grade this coming Thursday, March 2nd, in honor of Dr Seuss’ birthday (also known as Read Across America Day).  Please note that if your student does not want to dress as a storybook character, they need to come to school in their regular uniform attire.  Please remember that standard dress down guidelines as per our handbook apply for students that wish to dress up on Thursday.

Also this week, our Librarian – Mrs. Tierney – will also be kicking off the Hats off To Reading Contest for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.  The contest begins March 1st and will run the entire month of March.  Additional Reading Logs will be available on our website under the Forms/Docs page or can also be requested from Mrs. Tierney during the student’s library period.  Please encourage your student to read as much as they can to help their grade win a prize!

Grade 4 Presidents Reports

Today our 4th graders completed their project on an assigned U.S. President, giving an oral presentation to their classmates along with a Google Slides presentation.  Adding to the fun was the “Secret Service detail” announcing each President’s arrival in the morning and escorting the 4th graders around throughout the school day.

Important Notice

As a courtesy to your child’s teacher and our office staff, any time you will be picking your child up early from school (even if they will be returning after an appointment), please notify the teacher via a note from home the day of – or an email the night before.  If there is a change in your child’s schedule after they have left for school, please call the main office (teachers may not always have an opportunity to check email during the day).  Thank you for your support.

Thank You! Returning Family Registration

Thank you to all our families who sent in their paperwork for the upcoming school year.  We will be starting new student admissions screenings, visits, and registration next week.  If you know of any families that are interested in learning more about Saint James School for Fall 2023, please have them reach out to Amy Guenther (aguenther@saintjamesschool.net).

5th & 6th Grade Cornhole Tournament

We are excited for our 5th & 6th grade social/Cornhole tournament tomorrow evening here at Saint James School.  Thank you to our teams that registered to participate and to the parents that indicated they would stay to help out our HSA parent volunteers at the event!

Please remember the cost is $5 per participant, payable at the door.   Snacks and drinks will be provided, in addition to trophies for the winning teams.

The gymnasium doors will open at 6:00pm and the event will end at 7:30pm.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night!

Hot Lunch Program

As you may have seen on the news, legislation was recently passed to extend the free hot lunch program for all families in the state, regardless of income.  We are awaiting confirmation from the town that Saint James School will be a part of this, but have been advised that the free hot lunch program WILL now extend through at least March.  An additional update should be forthcoming shortly regarding the rest of the school year.

If you have already funded your child’s hot lunch account based on the original information, please note that funds will carry over until next year if necessary.

Munson’s Fundraiser

We are excited to announce a delicious way to support Saint James School – our Munson’s Chocolate Fundraiser, with delivery of goodies just in time for Easter!

A copy of the following documents have been sent home with students to help with their selling efforts:

During the fundraiser period, which runs through March 8th, collect orders and money from friends, family, neighbors, etc.  Visit our Campaign page:  https://www.munsonschocolates.com/online-fundraising/saint-james-schoolct-1 to place the order.

Checks should be made payable to Saint James School HSA. Please be sure to check your totals carefully. Copies of online orders and checks should be turned in to school by March 9th.

Orders will be ready the last week of March (pick-up date and instructions will be sent out via the email blast).

New Phone System

Over the break we had a new phone system installed here at school.  Please be sure to listen to the updated menu when calling in as the extension you need may have changed (i.e. you will still press ‘1’ to reach the main office, however the nurse’s line is now number ‘4’, the social worker is now ‘7’, etc.).
