Read to Achieve is underway!
Last Friday you should have received a copy of the Read To Achieve information packet home in your child’s folder. The program began on Monday, January 21st and runs through February 15th. Read to Achieve is done in combination with the Springfield Armor Basketball team and is designed to help your child develop good reading habits by encouraging them to read for at least 20 minutes 5 days a week. Prizes will be given out during the month to keep your child motivated to reach their goal.
At the end of the program, if your child has met the required reading, they will win a FREE ticket to the Springfield Armor Basketball game on FRIDAY, MARCH 15th (parents can purchase additional discounted tickets) at which time they will be recognized on the basketball court as part of a special parade.
Attached is the Reading Log that you and your child need to complete each night in case you need an extra copy. Please remember that the “claim” ticket needs to be cut out and returned each Monday during the program.
Of Special Note: The Friendly’s coupon says it is valid at participating Springfield, MA locations, but the Springfield Armor has confirmed that Connecticut Friendly’s will also accept this coupon.

HSA & Gala Committee Meeting Monday (2/4)
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolThis month’s HSA & Gala Committee meeting will be held on Monday (2/4) at 6:30pm in the Pre-Kindergarten. All Saint James Parents are welcome to come share their input and ideas. There will not be a separate HSA meeting on Wednesday.
Robotics Club Starts Tomorrow (Grades 6-8)
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolThe Robotics Club is starting another fun year at Saint James School! Open to all middle school students, the Robotics club will meet every other Friday from 2:30pm to 4:00pm starting Friday February 1st. Participants will work as a team to build and program Lego’s Mindstorm robot.
Additionally, the group will take one or two field trips to observe a high school robotics competition and possibly visit an industrial site that utilizes robotics. This club is open to all 6-8th grade students. The participation fee for this year’s Robotics Club is $35 (Please make check out to “Saint James School”) to aid in purchasing supplies.
Please print and turn in a copy of the attached Robotics Club permission slip.

Reminder: Read To Achieve Week 1 Ticket Due Tomorrow (1/28)
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolJust a reminder that the Week 1 Read To Achieve reading ticket is due tomorrow. Your child will receive a small prize for handing in their ticket tomorrow. If they read a minimum of 20 minutes during 5 days each week of the contest period, your child will win a free ticket to a Springfield Armor Basketball game on FRIDAY, MARCH 15th where they will be recognized along with their Saint James School classmates.

Volunteer Recognition Ceremony

As part of the ceremony, students from all grades participated in a “living Rosary” in honor of our volunteers.

Teens for Jeans
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolOne of our Saint James School alumna is working in conjunction with DoSomething.org, Aeropostal and P.S. from Aeropostal to collect new or old jeans for a homeless shelter in our area. Saint James School will be collecting jeans now through February 10th if you are interested in participating. Please look for more information coming home in your child’s folder today or tomorrow.
Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Contest @ SJS 1/26
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolOn Saturday, January 26th our friends at the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a FREE Basketball Free-Throw Contest in the Saint James School gymnasium for boys and girls ages 10 – 14. The event will run from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Proof of age is required (copy of a report card is acceptable or a copy of a document with the child’s birth date).
