Dear Parents, Guardians, & Students,
As the school year draws to a close, I wanted to again thank all the SJS families that participated in our school-wide survey a couple of months ago. Your feedback is very important to us and we know that Saint James will continue to thrive with a solid collaborative effort between our families and the school.
The members of our accreditation steering committee, Father Cavanaugh, and I have spent a lot of time reviewing the survey responses in detail as well as reading each and every comment. The steering committee also reviewed the feedback on a broader level with the teachers, staff, and school board – all of whom are actively engaged in the upcoming re-accreditation process.
As we reviewed the comments, there were several common “themes” that stood out to us. Some of these items are now being addressed while others are more appropriate for long-range planning by the school board. Presently, for example, we are working to secure funding to replace the breezeway roof this summer and we will be adding iPad technology in the upper grades (5th – 8th as a first phase) during the next school year. Additionally, there were several comments about adding to our after-school activity offerings and I am looking for parents, grandparents, or others who may be interested in spearheading those efforts. Suggestions included (but are not limited to) an art club, elementary-level running club, and choral group. These items are just a few of the many items parents, guardians, and students commented on. There are several others items that we will be continuing to brainstorm and work on over the summer.
As a reminder, our re-accreditation visiting team will be at Saint James School in October of 2015. Over the course of the summer and next school year the administration, faculty, and staff will be working very hard to put together all the required documentation; Your feedback is – and will continue to be – an essential part of our re-accreditation process.
Thank you again for your time and your commitment to making Saint James School the very best place for our students to grow and learn.
Sincerely,
Patricia A. Kanute

Reminder: Saint James School Cross Country (Grades 5-8)
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolAs most of you are thinking of sun, fun, and no school, what better time to don your running shoes and explore the great outdoors!
I would like to encourage students entering 5th – 8th grade to come out in September for the SJS Cross Country Team. There will be two practices per week with a competition on either a Friday or Saturday. Practices will take place on Tuesday afternoons following school and Saturday mornings. This is the first year that cross country has been introduce to 5th graders in the hopes of generating interest to the program at an earlier age.
Attached you will find a summer training schedule for those who are inspired to come ready to run in September. I hope to find many new recruits eager to join the Saint James cross country team! The Manchester Running Club sponsors the Thursday Night Track & Field Series at Manchester High School, July 10-31st. This is open to all ages and consists of various running, jumping and throwing events. Also, East Catholic offers summer sports programs which include boys & girls cross country, August 11th-15th. This is open to all students entering 5-9 grade.
Parents – attached is a health form that will need to be completed before any practice or competition. The season begins quickly, so it would be wise to have all forms completed prior to the beginning of school. Also a $35.00 Cross Country fee is required before participation.
I would welcome any assistants to aid with practices and/or competitions. We will need parents and/or assistants to help in transporting students to and from a local location for practice. Please feel free to contact me this summer if interested.
Have a safe summer and happy running!

Overdue Balances
/in Uncategorized /by Saint James SchoolMrs. Kanute has received notification that many families still owe balances for hot lunch. This impacts our school financially because Saint James is responsible for paying that money to the town. Any family that still owes a balance on the last day of school (for hot lunch, lost library books, missing sports uniforms, etc.) will not receive their child(ren)’s report card(s) until their balance is paid.
Reminder: 2014 Annual Fund Campaign Now Underway
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolSeveral weeks ago all parents, guardians, alumni, staff, and other friends of the school should have received a letter from Mrs. Kanute (along with the Spring SJS Community Newsletter) outlining the three projects that this year’s annual fund donations will support. Annual fund donations provide our school with funding for much-needed capital improvement projects that are not covered by tuition. This year, donations will help defray the cost of replacing the breezeway roof, replacing another set of windows, and upgrading our technology infrastructure to prepare for new classroom technology coming in the fall.
For those families and friends who have already donated, Thank You again for your support!! If you have not yet made a (tax-deductible) donation, we hope that you will consider helping Saint James School stay strong for the future by making a contribution today. Every donation – of every size – makes a difference!

Field Day 2014 Pictures
/in St. James Notices /by Saint James SchoolYesterday pre-kindergarten through 7th grade students enjoyed a day of fun and friendly competition at the annual Saint James School Field Day. Thank you to the many parent volunteers, 7th grade students, and even some of our recent 8th grade graduates who helped run the activities and kept the fun going all day long.
