Morning Drop-Off

Please remember, students who are NOT using the BEFORE CARE program cannot be dropped off/enter the school prior to 7:30am.  Staff do not come down to monitor the students until 7:30am.  If your child enters our building prior to 7:30am, they must go down to Before Care and sign-in with Ms. Jean (extended day charges apply).  Thank you for your attention and understanding.

Box Tops Counted Tomorrow

Box tops for the first dress down contest of the new school year will be counted on September 13th.  Please be sure to send in any box tops you accumulated over the summer by September 13th to help your child’s grade win!

Each year, Saint James School asks parents to clip “Box Tops for Education” and send them into the school. Each Box Top you clip earns 10₡ for Saint James. Last year, our school earned over $1,800 from Box Tops alone!

Each month, the GRADE that brings in the most Box Tops will win a free dress down day (date determined by the teachers).
To count for the September Box Tops dress down contest, Box Tops need to be submitted to your child’s teacher by 2:00pm on the counting date.

To learn more about Box Tops, visit the Box Tops For Education Website or contact Saint James School parent volunteer coordinator Mary Beth Dufresne at marybethdufresne@cox.net.

By creating a free account on the Box Tops For Education website (http://www.boxtops4education.com/), you will also be able to enter contests and give-a-ways for additional free Box Tops for our school.

As always, we appreciate your support of Saint James School!

Tardy Reminder

Mrs. Zorger would like to remind parents of the importance of getting your child(ren) to school on time each morning.  There were an excessive number of late arrivals this morning.

Please remember, late arrivals are disruptive to the teacher, morning announcements, and the classroom routine.   If you find yourself not making it to school between 7:30am and 7:50am (to be in line with you class by the 7:55 bell), Mrs. Zorger asks that you please take a few moments today to talk to your child/ren about the importance of being punctual and help them readjust their morning schedule accordingly.

Please remember it is our policy (as noted in the parent/student handbook) that 3 unexcused tardy arrivals will result in a detention.

Thank you again for your support of our school policies and procedures.

Parking Announcement

Mrs. Zorger would like to send a huge Thank You to everyone for adhering to the parking procedures for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.  Your cooperation helps ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of our students/parents/staff.  One additional note:  Please DO NOT PARK in the grassy driveway near the vacant lot at the end of Park Street (on the side of the blue house by the Pre-K).  That driveway/area is for staff parking only.

Monthly Calendar

There were a few changes to the Monthly Events Calendar after we sent it out last week.  Please utilize the updated calendar below going forward.  (The updated calendar can also be found on the “documents & forms” page of our website for future reference).  Changes are as follows:

  • There is a half day on January 24th with Professional Development for staff (PLC) from 12:30 – 3:00pm
  • Because of that change, the 7th Grade Science Fair will be held on January 17th
  • Because of the ½ day, the Rosary will be on January 10th at 8:15am
  • The Middle School Parent Chrome Book Meeting (Grade 6 – 8 Parents) was moved to Wednesday September 27th at 6:00pm (the meet the teachers night for middle school is still being held on September 20th).

Updated Calendar Pages 2017-2018

As a reminder, parents can Subscribe to the school’s electronic calendar on their personal calendar by opening the full calendar via the school website homepage and clicking the “Subscribe” button at the bottom.  Once you Subscribe, changes to the school calendar will automatically sync to your personal calendar.

Scholastic Book Fair

Saint James School will be hosting the Annual Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, September 18 through Thursday, September 21. The book fair will be open for students to shop during the school day and the evenings of 9/19 and 9/20 during “Meet the Teachers” Nights. Proceeds from the book fair (50% of your purchase!!) go towards funding new books and equipment for the classrooms and the school library.

Volunteers are needed to help set-up/clean-up the book fair and to work at the fair: helping students make selections and serving as cashiers.  If you are able to help, please click HERE to access the visit the Scholastic Book Fair Volunteer Link. You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one and then proceed to register for a date and time period to help.   Please remember you must complete a background check and VIRTUS training to volunteer.  Any questions can be directed to our Book Fair Chairs Heather Meyer (grizmeyer@cox.net) and Andrea Piotrowski (ampiotrowski@yahoo.com).
Any time you can give would be appreciated to help us make this year’s book fair another huge success. Thank you!

“Change” To Make A Difference

Starting tomorrow students are asked to bring in spare “change” to donate towards the hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas.  Teachers have been (or will be talking) about hurricane Harvey and how it has impacted the lives of so many people.  Tragedies like Harvey can serve as an important reminder for our students about how fortunate we are and how we can help make a difference in the lives of others during times of need.

The money raised at our school over the next week will be donated to the relief efforts through Catholic Charities.  Any “change” your family wishes to donate should be given to the homeroom teacher (by your child/ren) this coming Thursday through next Friday (September 15th).  As always with our fundraisers and outreach programs, participation is strictly voluntary and we are grateful for any support our families wish to provide.
