SJS HSA Gives: St. Baldrick’s Update

Hello SJS students and families!

A quick HSA GIVES update on our upcoming St. Baldrick’s event: the Sabers Team has raised almost $1,100!  We are looking for more people to sign up to shave/buzz or just sign up and fund-raise (choose volunteer on our team page, get your own page and ask people to donate) to meet our team goal of $5,000.

Another option is to go to the team page and donate online.  St. Baldrick events like ours have already raised over $16 million this year – you can easily see how a little bit from a lot of people can really make an impact!

If you can, we encourage you to come to the event on April 8th at the Hilton Mystic to cheer on our 34 (and still counting!) shavees/buzzers — the spirit of generosity and enthusiasm will certainly make your day.  Head shaving starts at 2:30pm and let’s not forget the raffles!  Anyone who signs up with our team and raises $10 or more, will get a St Baldrick’s wristband, a button, and some cool stickers.  If you raise $50 or more you will also get a St Baldrick’s t shirt!  In order to have your t shirt at the event, you need to sign up no later than Sunday, March 25th.  Those who sign up after this date will still get t shirts, but they will come in after April 8th.  Pediatric cancers claim the life of a child every two minutes.  Join us in funding new treatments to give kids a better chance to beat this beast.

Yearbook Orders Due TOMORROW

If you would like your child to receive a yearbook at the end of the school year, TOMORROW (Friday 3/23) is the deadline to order (Grades Pre-K through 7th only…all 8th grade students will automatically receive one).  The price per book is $25.  Payment should be made by check, made out to Saint James School.

Due Tomorrow: Soccer Paperwork

It’s time to sign up for the 2018 Saint James Soccer season!  Boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 are eligible to play.  The season runs from early April through mid June.  If your child is planning to participate, please click on the link below to read the detailed information from Coach Sargent.  The sign-up form should be returned to the school office with the appropriate activity fee (make checks out to “Saint James School”) by Friday, March 23rd.  If your child has not previously participated in a sport at SJS this year, you will need to also submit the Athletics Health Form for 2017-2018 (see below).

Please note – we are in need of coaches, particularly for the younger grades (you do not have to have a child playing to coach). To volunteer or if you have any questions about the program, please contact Jon Sargent via telephone at 440-319-8892 or email: sjssoccer@charter.net.

12:05PM Dismissals This Week

As a reminder, Saint James School will be dismissing at 12:05pm on Wednesday and Thursday this week for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  If your child will be going to aftercare, they will need a lunch from home as no hot lunch is served on half days.

End of School Update

As you know, this has been a very unusual year in terms of the amount of snow days we have incurred.  We have been watching each week as a new storm comes into the forecast and have wanted to see signs of spring before we determined/communicated how we would account for all the missed days.  Thank you for your patience.

Barring any further weather events cancelling school, our last day of school here at Saint James will be Friday, June 22nd.

We will have full-day sessions on Monday and Tuesday of that week, with early dismissal (12:05pm) on Wednesday (June 20th), Thursday (June 21st), and Friday (June 22nd).

Aftercare WILL be in session on all three of the 12:05pm dismissal days.

There will not be any snow days made up during April vacation as many families (and staff) have travel plans.

The extra week of school in June does impact our summer program and we will communicate over the next few days what the changes to that program will look like.

Reminder: DISMISSAL CHANGES EFFECTIVE TODAY (Monday, March 19TH)

Attention All Saint James School Parents and Guardians:

As we hope you are already aware, the Saint James School administration and staff is constantly monitoring and evaluating our school’s safety and security procedures.  Please know that everything we ask of you is well thought out and evaluated by our safety committee.

The safety and security of our students, staff, and families is our absolute number one priority.

A concern that has come to our attention is that too many parents (with or without their students) are wandering back into the school from the gym after 2:05pm dismissal to see a teacher, stop in the office, or retrieve forgotten items.  As you can appreciate, it is imperative – for many reasons – that we know exactly who is in our building at all times.

With this in mind, beginning Today (Monday) we are putting the following in place:

**All students being picked up in the gym at 2:05pm and their parent/guardian must exit the gym via the outside doorThere will no longer be direct access from the gym to the school, breezeway, or cafeteria at 2:05pm dismissal.

**If you need to go back into the school after you pick-up your child/ren in the gym, you may re-enter the school only via the double green doors at our main entrance.  Please use the buzzer to alert us of your presence — we will see you on our external camera and unlock the door for you.  Please come into the main office before going to a classroom or other area of the school.

**You may begin using the aftercare buzzer/entrance beginning at 2:10pm to get down to aftercare, however the doors to get back into the classroom portion of the school will be locked.

Lastly, if you have asked someone else to pick up your child (other than the already designated person), you must write a note to your child’s teacher (or call the office if it’s during school hours).  We will not dismiss to another person (even another SJS parent) unless we have been notified.

Thank you!
