Volunteers Needed: 2018 Scholastic Book Fair

Saint James School will be hosting the Annual Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, September 17 through Thursday, September 21.  The book fair will be open for students to shop during the school day and the evenings of 9/18 and 9/19 during “Meet the Teachers” Nights.  Proceeds from the book fair (50% of your purchase!!) go towards funding new books and equipment for the classrooms and the school library.

Volunteers are needed to help set-up/clean-up the book fair and to work at the fair: helping students make selections and serving as cashiers (must have completed VIRTUS and Background Check).  If you are able to help, please click Here to access the visit the Scholastic Book Fair Volunteer Link.  You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one and then proceed to register for a date and time period to help.  Any questions can be directed to our Book Fair Chair, Heather Meyer (grizmeyer@cox.net).

Any time you can give would be appreciated to help us make this year’s book fair another huge success.  Thank you!

Text Notifications For Closings/Early Dismissal/Delays

Due to the possibility that schools could close early for heat this week we want to remind parents that Saint James School follows “Manchester Public Schools” for closings, early dismissals, and delays.

For the quickest notification in these instances, please make sure you have signed up to receive text notifications (or email notifications if you prefer) from one of the local stations:  You can click HERE to sign up for alerts from NBC30 or HERE to sign up for alerts from WFSB Channel 3 (remember to choose “Manchester Public Schools”).

Please discuss with your child what they should do in the event of an early dismissal so they are prepared (take the bus, go to aftercare, etc.).

Inclement Weather Policy

Cross Country Cancelled Today

Cross Country is cancelled for today due to the heat.  An email was sent this morning to all registered families.

No School Monday

Note, bus 28 is running a bit late today.

As a reminder, we are off from school on Monday for the Labor Day Holiday.  We will see you back at school on Tuesday – Have a wonderful long weekend!

Morning Drop-off and Afternoon Pickup

A huge thank you again to our SJS parents for your understanding as we continue to work through our morning drop-off and pick-up procedures.  Please know that the safety of all our students during this congested time of day is our number one concern.  As such, town engineers were out again this summer to help re-assess traffic flow and offer suggestions.

To help further clarify, the town has provided us with the attached map:  MAP FROM TOWN FOR SAFE PARKING/DROP-OFF

Important notes:

*Do not let your child cross the road anywhere other than the crosswalks.

* No parking in front of the breezeway or where the buses park at dismissal time.

*Only very slow, cautious turns onto Otis Street, please.

*Do not double park.

*Never let your child jump out towards the street.

*Lastly, as a reminder, the front portion of the Saint James Church parking lot is considered a “town lot” and is subject to their 2-hour parking rules (you will get a ticket after 2 hours).  If you will be volunteering at the school for a long period of time and are not able to use on-street parking.  Please let Mrs. Sager know your license plate number so she can make the appropriate calls.

Please be sure share this information with anyone who drops off or picks up your children.

We truly appreciate how supportive and patient everyone has been this week, particular with the roof construction changing up or normal procedures.  We are excited for a great year!!

The first HSA meetings will be held on September 4 from 7-8pm in the school cafeteria and September 5 from 8-9am in the church hall.  Please attend whichever meeting best fits your schedule.  The meetings will give you a chance to meet several of our parent volunteers, hear about upcoming events, and learn about the many ways you can help out throughout the year.
