In the spirit of gratitude and to thank everyone for all the hard work that our students and staff have put forth so far this year, Mrs. Zorger surprised our school community this morning by offering a dress down day tomorrow (Tuesday, 11/23) for all SJS students and staff.  There are no specific criteria for Tuesday’s dress down day other than the standard SJS dress-down guidelines from our policy book:

• No shorts (since we are in the winter uniform time-frame)
• Clothing must not have indecent writing or pictures, inappropriate slogans or advertisements.
• Revealing clothing, including halter tops, half shirts, tank tops, and see-through tops, are not allowed.
• Leggings are not allowed (unless the student is wearing a long shirt that comes down to mid-thigh)
• Waistbands must not sag below the waist. Pants legs must not drag on the floor.
• High heels, platform shoes, flip-flops, open-toe sandals, and shoes with no backs are not allowed.
• Clothing must not be torn, ragged, or have holes.

A STEM Club session will be held after school on Tuesday, November 30 for students in 4th grade.  If your child would like to attend, please fill out the Permission Form below.  There are a limited number of spaces so students will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

This week Saint James School has joined our peers from across the region in celebrating the many benefits of Catholic education.  Each day we have been highlighting one of the many pieces that we feel makes Saint James School an exceptional choice for today’s learners!   Thank you for taking this journey of reflection with us.  Today be put the final piece in our puzzle on why we love our Catholic School:

Day 5: Service to Others

Catholic schools are faith-filled communities that focus on a Christian way of life. Service activities play an important role in the development of students’ character by helping them step outside their comfort zone, learn new skills, and gain a better understanding of the communities in which they live. Service activities raise social awareness and builds a mindset of helping others – whether that be in the classroom, on the playground, or in students’ hometown communities.

At Saint James School our students regularly participate in service programs: making cards for nursing homes, $1 dress down days (with proceeds donated to a specific charity), food drives, making “Brian Bags” for the homeless, and assisting with other school-sponsored activities.  Older students have a service component as part of their religion grade and will seek out opportunities within the community that interest them to fulfill this requirement.
