Reminder – Picture Day is this Monday 9/20

Individual Pictures will be taken on Monday, September 20th for all students.   For students in grades K-8, this is considered a DRESS DOWN (or “Dress Up”) Day, where students will come to school in whatever you want their picture taken in.  They will wear that attire for the entire school day.  Please note all student attire must adhere to the Dress Down guidelines on numbered page 11 of the 2021-2022 Parent Student Handbook.

Picture information flyers were sent home yesterday with students (Wednesday, 9/15).

There will not be “Class Pictures” taken this year due to social distancing guidelines.  Instead, class pictures will be a compilation of individual portraits.

Attention Grade 7 & 8 Parents

Our local Catholic High Schools (East Catholic, Xavier, and Mercy) have requested that we provide them with the names and home addresses of our 7th grade &  8th grade students so they can keep your family informed of upcoming Open House dates and admissions information.

If you would prefer that we DO NOT pass along your child’s information, please REPLY to this email – or email aguenther@saintjamesschool.net – by noon of this coming Monday (9/20).

Kindergarten STREAM Class

For their weekly STREAM special this morning, Kindergartners listened to the story Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss, then tried to build their own tower that would hold 10 apples.  The students had a blast watching Mrs. Poth balance the apples on each other’s creations and, inevitably, watching the apples roll away as their tower toppled under the weight.

Otis Street Parking

As a reminder, parking on Otis Street is only permitted on ONE SIDE of the road.   Please do not park on the wrong side of the road as it creates traffic congestion and inhibits the safe flow of traffic.

There is a no-parking sign posted, and that sign applies to that whole side of the street.  Please share this with anyone who picks up your child/ren. Thank you again for your help.

Morning Drop & Go Reminder

A reminder for K – 8 families:  the Drop & Go line in the morning should only be used when your student is fully ready to exit the car.  If your child needs a few extra minutes to get their mask on, finish breakfast, organize their belongings, etc. please find a place to park until they are ready.  Drop & Go should only be used for students ready to quickly exit the car and begin their day.  Thank you for your understanding.

Volunteers Needed – Scholastic Book Fair

The HSA will be hosting the annual Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, October 4th through Thursday, October 7th.  The book fair will be open for students to shop during the school day, with extended hours on one day for parents to shop before/after school hours. Proceeds from the book fair (up to 50% of your purchase!!) go towards funding new books and equipment for the classrooms and the school library.

Volunteers are needed to help set-up/clean-up the book fair and to work at the fair by helping students make selections and serving as cashiers.  Please note that in order to volunteer you must have completed the VIRTUS training, completed a Background Check, and be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.  If you are able to help, please click HERE to access the Volunteer Sign Up sheet.  You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one and then proceed to register for a date and time period to help.  Any questions can be directed to event chair/parent volunteer Alicia Poth (apoth@saintjamesschool.net).

Any time you can give would be appreciated to help us make this year’s book fair a huge success.  Thank you!
