SJS Basketball Interest Form

We are starting to plan for the upcoming Basketball season, which will run from November through March.  To help us get an idea of how many teams we will have and how many coaches we need, please fill out the form below if your child is interested in playing.  As a reminder, the Catholic school basketball league is open to boys and girls in grades 4 – 8.

https://forms.gle/TUXRJJDciBfcqWzt5

Please note, a formal permission slip and additional information will be sent out in the weeks ahead to everyone that has expressed interest in playing.

If you have not already done so, please remember to get your child’s 2022-2023 Athletics Health Permission Form SIGNED by their Pediatrician in the days ahead.  They will not be able to practice until we have the signed form on file.

SJS Cheerleading Interest Form

We are excited to have a few SJS moms who have volunteered to coach a Cheerleading Squad if there is enough interest this year.  Practices would take place after school hours (times TBD) and the squad would cheer at some of our basketball games throughout the season.

Cheer is open to girls in 4th – 8th grade.  If your daughter meets this requirement and is interested in being a Cheerleader for SJS, please fill out the form below to help us gauge interest.  If we have enough girls that sign up, we will communicate additional details and send out formal registration paperwork.

Scholastic Book Fair Starts Monday!

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held at Saint James School next week in the school gymnasium.  The book fair is a great way to encourage reading and build home libraries.  It is also a great way to support our school as 50% of all purchases go directly to the school.

All students will have an opportunity to visit the book fair with their class.  Younger students (preK-5th) will first make a “Wish List” and then they will have a secondary opportunity to visit the fair to purchase the items on their wish list.  Middle school students (6th-8th) will visit the fair one time to make purchases as follows:  6th graders on Monday, 7th graders on Tuesday, and 8th graders on Wednesday.

**Please remember to send along a shopping bag for your child’s purchases.

eWallet

The easiest way for your child to make purchases at the book fair is via the eWallet option.  This is a convenient option that avoids children having to carry money to school and assists our volunteers greatly during checkout.  We strongly encourage you to sign up for eWallet by following this link.

Parent Shopping Hours

The book fair will be open for Parent Shopping Hours on Tuesday and Wednesday between 7:15-7:45am and 1:30-2:45pm. Parents who visit the fair will be able to enter a raffle so we encourage you to stop by!  This will also give you the opportunity to purchase books for your child’s classroom teacher.

Our book fair is available online from 10/3 to 10/16 by clicking HERE.  All books ordered online will be shipped directly to your home and any book-only orders of $25 or more will ship for free.  Please do keep in mind that online orders earn 25% profit for the school, not the same 50% as purchases made in-person at our fair.

Pre-Order the Newest Cat Kid and Wimpy Kid Books!

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Diper Overlode” is coming out on October 25.  You can pre-order a paperback copy at the book fair for $9.99.  “Cat Kid: Comic Club Collaborations” is coming out on November 29.  You can pre-order a paperback copy for $12.99.  To place an order for either book, visit the fair during Parent Shopping Hours or add the books to your child’s wish list.  The books will arrive at school shortly after the release dates and will be sent home with your child.

Morning Arrival

As a reminder, please do not drop your child off at the breezeway entrance UNTIL the breezeway doors are open and a Saint James School staff member is there to receive them.  If you arrive before the breezeway doors open, you are welcome to wait in the car with your child at the curb or stand with them outside the breezeway doors. Thank you.

Congratulations XC Team

Morning Arrival (and Dismissal) Reminders

Thank you to all of our families for your assistance in ensuring a smooth and safe morning arrival (and afternoon dismissal).  We appreciate the extra caution and adherence to our polices so that everyone has a great start (and end) to their school day!

A couple of reminders from the school office and from our crossing guards:

*Please remember our Drop & Go area is for students that are fully ready to quickly hop out of the car.  If your student needs a few extra minutes, needs to grab items from the trunk, or needs parent assistance, please pull down past the Pre-K building or on Otis Street to park.

* If, at any time, your child needs assistance getting to their classroom in the morning after we open the breezeway doors at 7:30am, please ask a school staff member to assist.  We do not allow anyone outside of school staff in the hallways during school hours unless they have checked in at the SJS main office and have received a visitor badge (which must be visibly worn on clothing).

* Breezeway doors close when the 7:50am bell rings.  K-8 students arriving after 7:50am must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the SJS main office to be signed in.

* Always have your child exit the car onto the sidewalk – never exit them into the road.

* Always cross at the cross walk and with the crossing guards during arrival and dismissal – do not dart across the street with your child!

* Please remember that cars should never stop ON (or too close to) a crosswalk;

* And, lastly, please walk in front of the crossing guards (not behind) for safety reasons.

Please be sure to share this information with anyone that drops off or picks up your child.

Thank you again!
