Varsity Girls Championship Game Tonight

The Saint James Girls Varsity Basketball team will play St. Mary’s tonight in the Deanery Championship game tonight at Corpus Christi in Wethersfield at 6:00pm.  Everyone is welcome to come cheer on our Sabers!

In related news, our JV Boys lost a hard fought deanery championship game to St. Mary’s JV boys last night at Northwest Catholic. It was a back and forth game and our boys erased deficits to take the lead multiple times throughout the game. The boys ultimately fell short by 3 points but they had a great run to the championship game and they are now on to compete in the State tournament.

Please Join Us! SJS Children’s Mass This Sunday

This Sunday, March 8th at 9:00am, Saint James School will host our monthly Children’s Mass with SJS students serving as readers, ushers, and gift bearers.  Our school choir will also be performing and Coffee, Juice & Donuts will be served in the church hall (downstairs) immediately following Mass.

All Saint James School students and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend in a show of support for our school!

Saint James School students are encouraged to wear their school uniforms (all students serving in any capacity must wear their SJS uniform).  This is a great way for the Saint James Church parishioners (many of whom very generously support our school) to see the exceptional students they are investing in.

All Saint James School families are welcome regardless of faith or home church.

JV Boys Advance to Deanery Championship Game

Our boys JV team has advanced to the deanery championship game by beating St. Thomas and St. Bridget over the weekend. The team has really grown together and they are playing their best basketball at the right time of the year. The Championship is on Tuesday at Northwest Catholic at 6pm versus St. Mary’s. Please come out to cheer on the team if you can!

Reminder: Lenten Collections at SJS

Lent is a time for us to make self-sacrifices in order to aid others.  Our faith calls on us to make this a priority and, as such, we are providing some opportunities at Saint James School for our students to participate.

Today, our Pre-K through Grade 8 students will bring home “Rice Bowls”.   Our student council members visited each classroom today to talk a little bit about what the Rice Bowls are and the support they provide.  We hope you will  have a conversation at home as well about how the Rice Bowl can be filled with change to be collected to support the needs of others who are less fortunate in our world.  Maybe this change can be earned for acts of kindness or other tasks performed for others at home or in your family’s community. You can visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos and learn more.   “Rice Bowls” are due back to homeroom teachers by April 9.

In addition, our Student Council is taking a collection for the non-profit organization Community Partners in Action.  They are in need of items for the men they serve who are moving into a working, independent environment.  If your family can contribute to this need, please have your child bring in any items to their homeroom teacher by Friday, March 27.

*Mens – sweat pants, tshirts, socks , boxers

*Towels, wash clothes, twin sheet sets, blankets

*Toothpaste, razors, toothbrush, lotion, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner

*Qtips, soap, laundry soap, shaving cream, deodorant , nail clippers, brushes, combs

Thank you for your consideration of supporting these two missions.

Read Across America $1.00 Dress Down Monday

Saint James School will join schools across the country in honoring Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the Read Across America initiative THIS coming Monday, March 2nd.  In addition to some special reading activities that day, March 2nd will also be $1.00 Dress Down for students and staff.  Students are encouraged to dress Dr. Seuss style (i.e. Thing 1/Thing 2, Fox in Socks, Cat in the Hat, etc).  All students should also bring in a Dr. Seuss book (or Dr. Seuss-type book) as there will be school-wide church buddy/book buddy activities that day.  Students that don’t have a Dr. Seuss book or Dr. Seuss-type book to bring in will be able to borrow one from the library.

Proceeds from the dress down will benefit a special program at Manchester Public Library that donates books to under-served children in Manchester.

As a reminder from Mrs. Zorger’s announcement, standard dress down guidelines apply and no wigs or colored hair are permitted.
