Mercy High School Program

Mercy High School has asked us to share the following information with our families:

“Discover Mercy” is a morning program offered for fifth, sixth and seventh grade girls and their parents to get a first look at Mercy by enjoying activities, student performances and informal conversations with Mercy students, parents, alumnae, administrators and faculty. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

During “Discover Mercy,” girls have the opportunity to spend time in the classrooms with faculty and students while attending “classes” such as Beginners Yoga, Creative Writing, French Cuisine, Mad about Math, and Theater Arts Workshop to name a few options. All of the choices are listed on the registration page. Here is the link: Discover Mercy. Meanwhile, parents may attend an informal question and answer session and participate in programs designed especially for them.

Following the morning program, everyone is invited to lunch in the cafeteria and experience a performance by the cast of the Mercy/Xavier Musical Mamma Mia!  Mercy Student Ambassadors are available to lead tours of the school at any time during the morning, including a stop at the school store.

Important: Tardy Arrival Reminder

Mrs. Zorger would like to remind parents of the importance of getting your child/ren to school on time each morning.  There have been an excessive number of late arrivals again the last few weeks (often the same students) and we are asking for our parents to help get these child/ren back on schedule.

Late arrivals are disruptive to the teacher, morning announcements, and the classroom routine. Planning to be punctual is also an important skill that will benefit your child/ren in all stages of their academic and professional career.   If you find yourself not making it to school between 7:30am and 7:50am, please take a few moments today to talk to your child/ren about the importance of being punctual and help them readjust their morning schedule accordingly.

Please remember it is our policy (as noted in the parent/student handbook) that 3 unexcused tardy arrivals will result in a detention.  We do understand that sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances, but those should be few and far between.

Thank you again for your support of our school policies and procedures.

Basketball Teams Win Big!

Lots of great wins for our basketball teams this past weekend.  Thank you to everyone who came out to Cheer on our teams including this cute group of fans:

Boys Varsity Gold

Our Boys Varsity Gold team enjoyed 3 victories this past week in league play. It was nice having 3 straight home games and the boys responded with wins over cross town rival St Bridget’s, St Paul’s of Kensington and John Paul of Middletown.  Evan A. and Ale O. continue to fuel the offense and improving Team defense is a great sign for these Sabers as they head to final few league games. Next up  the Sabers host League #1 St. Gabriel’s of Windsor, a very talented group and a team that plays beyond its years. That game tips this Thursday at SJS at 7:30 pm.  Feel free to come out and cheer them on!

Boys JV

The JV Boys improved their record to 7-2 on the season with a close win over St. Thomas. The boys played showed great teamwork in front of the excited home crowd, closing out a successful day of basketball at the Sabres’ den.

Girls JV

Our Girls 6th grade JV team dominated over St Paul’s of Kensington at home this weekend with a 31-14 victory, their 6th win in a row and bringing their record to  7-2 for the season.

Journalism Club Volunteer Needed

We are in need of a second parent volunteer to help with the Journalism Club.  The group meets Thursdays after school.  If you are able to assist, please reach out to Mrs. Sager.

This Saturday evening, February 8th, join fellow SJS students and parents as the University of Hartford takes on the University of Vermont (at UHart) at 7:00pm.  Both teams are tied for first in the American East conference (division 1) so it should be a great game!  All SJS kids will be free and parent tickets are only $5.
