Instrumental Music

Students in grades five and six are asked to e-mail Mr. Corcoran at jcorcoran@snet.net sometime today to schedule a lesson time.  Mr. Corcoran is set up to teach via Facetime, but is committed to implementing other technology if needed.

On Tuesday, students in Grade 4 should reach out to Mr. Corcoran to set up their remote lessons.

Yearbook Update

There is still time to order your yearbook. You can go to YBpay.lifetouch.com. Type in our school code: 9708620. From there you will type in the name and grade of your student and follow with the payment. Please note: the multiple copy discount is no longer available. You will need to pay the full price for each yearbook you order. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. St. Jean at lstjean@saintjamesschool.net.

Munson’s Chocolate

Due to current circumstances and the uncertainty surrounding the next few weeks, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our Munson’s fundraiser order.  We will be issuing refund checks to families that participated in this fundraiser in the near future and hope everyone will be understanding of this decision.  Munson’s has been very supportive in working through this with us and, as a local business, we would like to encourage you to consider purchasing your Easter Candy from them online: https://www.munsonschocolates.com

Beginning on Sunday, they will have a special promotion for free shipping on orders of $55-$120 with the code FREESHIP (limited time offer).

Instrumental Music Lessons

Mr. Corcoran is available to work with his students for lessons via Facetime and possibly other technology as well.  If you are interested, please e-mail at jcorcoran@snet.net and he will schedule a lesson time.  He would like to start with 7th and 8th grade students right now, but will move to include other students in the near future.

SJS Foundation Golf Outing Rescheduled

Please be advised that the Saint James School Foundation’s 26th Annual Golf Tournament has been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 2nd.  Please mark your calendar accordingly.

From the Librarian

To our Saint James School Families,

While we are all adjusting to our new reality of distance learning I wanted to reach out with some reading resources that might help add some fun into our long days at home. Scholastic has added a great Learn at Home website which includes free resource articles, stories and learning challenges (www.scholastic.com/learnathome). There is also a #savethestories on Instagram that has authors and celebrities reading stories to children!  For our Manchester residents, our Manchester Public libraries have ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines that can be downloaded using your library card. Visit Manchesterctlibrary on Facebook or their website for info.

March is typically a very exciting time in our library, celebrating Dr. Seuss all month, we will continue with our Hats Off to Reading contest with an ending date when we return back to school. Please let our K-6 students know that any books, audiobooks, ebooks etc. they read or listen to over our time at home can be logged on paper and submitted to me when we return back to school. I will also continue with our fun activities and contests we had planned for March during our library when we return and hope this brings a smile to our students who were looking forward to this!

Thank you to all of the parents , teachers, and students for all working together as a team to make the most of our learning experiences during these difficult times! I am truly missing all of our students smiling faces during our library time and am looking forward to seeing everyone when we return to school.

We are blessed to be part of such a wonderful community; stay healthy and safe.

Mrs. Carpenter

Middle School Parents

Please note that 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents should have received a special email this morning with an additional code for the students to add to Google Classroom (for Middle School Technology Class).  If you did not receive the email with the code this morning from SJS, please check your SPAM folder first, then reach out to Amy Guenther at aguenther@saintjamesschool.net for a copy.

Community Partners in Action Donations

We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who donated to the Community Partners in Action drive that we had started two weeks ago.  A representative from the organization came by today and picked up everything that had come in and they were exceptionally grateful for your support.

Thank You!

A huge THANK YOU to all our SJS families for stopping by our Breezeway Pick-Up area yesterday and today to get the materials we had for you and to all our 8th grade parents for dropping off your students’ research papers that were due today.  We also wanted to share our gratitude for so many kind words and emails that were shared with the administration and faculty during these past few days.  We feel so blessed to be part of this special community.  Please know that each and every family is in our prayers.

Instrumental Music Notes From Mr. Corcoran

General Performing Maintenance:

1) Remember if you play at one range or one dynamic level you will lose the others. It is recommended that you play your highest and lowest notes as well as your loudest note and your softest dynamic range.

2) Sight read every day.  Go to a new lesson in your book or old band music you have not played in a long  time.

3) Brass players play long tones in the upper register striving for 30 seconds.

4) Move as far as you can in your books. I showed everyone the  rhythmic concepts on charts 7 and 11.

My e-mail is jcorcoran@snet.net feel free to e-mail with any questions about what or how to practice. I hope to be able to Skype in a few days to we can continue lessons.

Sincerely,

Mr. Corcoran
