Summer Camp Update

We wanted to keep families apprised of the situation concerning the Saint James School Summer Camp.  The decision was made at our recent school board meeting to forgo hosting the summer camp at Saint James School this year.  As our school does not have a nurse on site during the summer months, combined with all the special protocol needed to operate this year, the decision was made to hold off for one more year. We look forward to hopefully reinstating our school’s summer camp in June 2022.

Hats off To Reading Contest

In honor of Read Across America, this week Mrs. Tierney is kicking off a fun reading contest for the Kindergarten through 6th grade classes.  Reading logs will be passed out in library this week & details on the contest will be discussed.  The grade with the most books read during the month of March will win a dress down day.  Extra reading logs are available in the library, from the classroom teachers, or in the Forms & Docs section of our school website (it’s also attached below).  If you have any questions on the contest, please e-mail Mrs. Tierney at jtierney@saintjamesschool.net.  The contest runs through the end of the month.  Good luck Sabers!

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences

Recommended: Social Media and Internet Safety for Parents

Please see the below details for TWO FREE virtual workshops being presented by Scott Driscoll of Internet Safety Concepts.  The first one is for parents on Monday, March 8th.  The second is for youth 12 years and older (parents can watch with their kids) on Tuesday, March 9th.  The workshops are part of KIDSAFE CT’s 3rd Annual Parent Conference – The Virtual Edition and are being sponsored by the SBM Foundation.

When: Monday, March 8, 2021 | 6:00-7:30pm
Location: Virtual Zoom event
Speaker: Scott Driscoll, Internet Safety Concepts

Join us for a FREE parenting workshop, Social Media and Internet Safety to learn about the technology children use.

With the constant surge of new information, programs, and apps, the world is a click or text away. But with new advances come new dangers and concerns. Parents need to be aware of the technology their children use and the trouble that can follow if safety rules are not in place.  Most apps can be used in fun, positive ways – but not all programs are appropriate for all ages.  This presentation will show parents the positives and potential pitfalls of today’s most popular programs.

One randomly chosen attendee will win an HP Chromebook!

Parking Concerns

Morning drop-off (7:30am-7:50am) and afternoon pick-up (2:00pm) always creates very heavy traffic flow around the school area.  This is why we encourage families to park in the St. James Church lot and why we have a crossing guard posted at Church Street.  If you choose not to use the St. James Church lot, we need you to please pay attention to our school protocol for drop-off and parking:

Please do NOT Park against the curb in front of the main school and parking lots from 7:30am – 8:00am – this entire area is used for morning Drop-and-Go only (quick drop-off).  If your child needs a few extra minutes to collect their things before getting out of the car, please park in the acceptable parking areas.

Parking on Otis Street is only permitted on ONE SIDE of the road only.  Please do not park on the wrong side of the road as it creates traffic congestion.

Please pay attention to No Parking Signs and Do NOT park in the staff parking areas.

Thank you again for your attention to the safety of our community and following the posted traffic rules.

Please Use Caution On Sidewalks

A gentle reminder, please proceed with extra caution on the sidewalks around the school.  While our maintenance staff does continually treat the sidewalks and blacktop areas around our property, the sidewalks across the street are cleared by the homeowners and may not receive the same level of attention.  As the snow piles around the school begin to melt during the daytime and refreeze in the evenings, we ask that everyone be extra observant of where they are walking on their way into school each day.
