A Note From Mrs. Zorger

Dear SJS Families,

As another great week of learning comes to a close, I wanted to take the opportunity to once again thank you for your continuous efforts to help our school community remain healthy.  I am grateful to all our families for heeding the request to be exceedingly cautious this year by keeping students at home if they show any sign of illness and quarantining students who may have had a COVID exposure through sports, family members, etc.  I know it does not come without sacrifice to be vigilant.

For those families with in-person learners (and remote learners as well), please continue to be extra cautious when it comes to your family’s well-being.  Not only do we want to keep all of our classes in the building throughout the remainder of the school year, but we want everyone in our extended school family to stay healthy and safe.

Thank you again for your support as we work through the challenges (and triumphs!) of this school year.  As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or Mrs. Vignati with any questions or concerns.

Enjoy your weekend!

Bridget Zorger, Principal

Last Call: Family Prayer Buddies

Thank you to the families that signed up thus far.  Here is a reminder for other families that might be interested in participating:

As a faith-based community, Saint James School students and staff often use the power of prayer to support one another.   To broaden the outreach of prayers and build up our support for each other here at SJS, we wish to invite your family to participate in a new program we are launching called Family Prayer Buddies.  With this program, SJS families will be paired together and commit to praying for each other every day.  Please complete the form below if you are interested in participating.  You have the option to choose how much of your own family’s information you would like to share with your prayer buddy family (see form).

Last Call: 2021 SJS Soccer Interest (Gr 3 – 8)

We are excited to announce that plans are underway for the 2021 Connecticut Catholic School Spring Soccer Season!  The season will run from mid April through early June and will follow the CIAC Health and Safety Protocol for spring sports.  Students in grades 3 – 8 are eligible to participate in the soccer program and no previous soccer experience is required.

Please note that students will need the 2020-2021 Athletics Health Permission Form completed and signed by their doctor in order to play (you may email Mrs. Sager in the front office – lsager@saintjamesschool.net –  if you are unsure whether or not your child has a form on file this year).

If your child/ren is interested in playing soccer for SJS this year, please complete the attached form by Tuesday, March 9th.  We are also in need of coaches and parent volunteers to oversee the students on the sidelines.

Morning Drop-Off Concerns

When using the drop-and-go line in the mornings, please ensure that you pay full attention when pulling back out into the flow of traffic.

* Please do not “watch” your child walking into the school while pulling out into traffic;

* Please use your blinker and take a moment to check your mirrors and surrounding area before pulling back into the road. Drivers in the street have the right of way.

There have been too many “close calls” recently and we need everyone to do their part to keep our parents and students healthy and safe.

Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 14-243. Starting or backing vehicle:

(a) No person shall move a vehicle which is stopped, standing or parked unless such movement can be made with reasonable safety and without interfering with other traffic, nor without signaling as provided by section 14-244.

(b) No person shall back a vehicle unless such movement can be made with reasonable safety and without interfering with other traffic.

(c) Violation of any of the provisions of this section shall be an infraction.

SJS State of the School Annual Report

As you might recall, each year Saint James School hosts a “State of the School” meeting to talk about our school’s performance in critical areas and outline major initiatives.  This year, due to the pandemic, we have put together the following informational State of the School video to share with our school community: https://youtu.be/MEAJKini8W4
