Squid Dissection

Special thanks to our Middle School teacher Mrs. Plante hosting an optional squid dissection for our 8th graders after school yesterday.  Students were able to identify the beak, gills, ink sack, heart, stomach, siphon, and more.  The students and parent volunteers found it to be an extremely interesting lab.

Students have just completed researching, writing, and illustrating a short book about an assigned animal. 1st Grade Butterfly Release

After saying a prayer for safe travels, SJS 1st graders released their butterflies into the wild yesterday afternoon. Our 1st grade students have watched these classroom pets go from caterpillars to chrysalises to butterflies as part of their science studies, keeping a journal with their personal observations throughout the transformation. The 1st grade classes have also been reading stories about butterflies and even visited the butterfly encounter on their field trip to the science center last week.  Here are a few pictures from yesterday’s butterfly release.
