New Virtue Announced:

Fourth Grade STREAM Challenge

Fire Safety & Prevention Week

Yesterday our younger students (Pre-K – Gr. 3) enjoyed a visit with local heroes from the Manchester Fire Department for a lesson on Fire Safety and Prevention. Below are several pictures taken yesterday morning.

Dress Down Thank You!

Thank you to all the SJS students and staff who participated in our St. Francis-inspired $1.00 Dress Down Day on Friday.  Together we raised $386 to will benefit the installation of raised beds and the planting of bulbs, both of which will tie in with upcoming science lessons for our students.

Cross Country Update

Our Cross Country team had another fantastic meet yesterday against Timothy Edwards and Sage Park.

For the boys, Evan Ansaldi came in 3rd out of 75 runners, followed closely by Erik in 6th place.  Bradley Bushnell and Alejandro Oyewole came in 21st and 34th to secure a 2nd place finish for the Sabers.  For the girls, Maya Fisher placed 2nd out of 47 runners, followed by Sarah Christina in 6th, Sammy Creamer in 9th, and Cora Tierney in 24th.  Unfortunately we didn’t have enough girls running to formally place in the meet.

Thank you to Mrs. Christina for sending some great pictures from yesterday’s meet.

This coming Monday (October 7th) the cross country team will practice after school from 2:05pm to 3:30pm as scheduled.

Schedule Change:

The team will race again on Wednesday, October 9th at Vernon Center Middle School INSTEAD of Thursday at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford.  We have made this change to our Cross Country Calendar so if you are subscribed, it should automatically update this in your calendar.

Next Saturday, October 12th, is the Wickham Park Invitational (8:00am arrival).

2nd Grade Science

Today Mrs. LaMarche’s class was continuing to learn about Forces in Motion during their science lesson.

Kindergarten Visits Hurst Farm Today

Our Kindergarten students enjoyed a fun morning at Hurst Farm today! Special thanks to the Kindergarten teachers for sending in some cute pictures for us to share with you.

Congrats SJS XC & The Week Ahead

Congratulations to our Saint James School Cross Country team on another great performance at this weekend’s Harry Geraghty Cross Country Invitational.  Leading the pack for the boys was Evan Ansaldi (8th) followed closely by Erik Ansaldi (10th).  Bradley Bushnell also scored in the top 25 and Jameson Fisher came in 34th.  The boys team took home 4 medals and a 2nd place trophy.

For the girls, Maya Fisher came in 4th overall, followed by Sarah Christina in 15th, Sammy Creamer in 22nd, and Cora Tierney in 36th.  The girls took home 3 medals and wold have earned a 2nd place trophy if they had had the required 5+ runners competing this weekend (unfortunately due to conflicts, a couple of girls were unable to attend).

1st Grade Science

Our 1st graders completed their science lesson on apples (seeds/roots/trees) today by making applesauce to share.  This also ties in with their recent science lessons on the 5 senses, as they talked about taste, touch, smell, and sight with respect to apples.
