Today Saint James School was honored to host Purple Heart Homes Co-Founder Dale Beatty, an Iraq war veteran who has dedicated his life to helping other wounded vets. Joining him at the school was Staff Sgt. Sandra Lee – also an Iraq war veteran injured while deployed, and her service dog. Sandra will be receiving a home here in Manchester thanks to the Purple Heart Homes program. Mr. Beatty spoke to students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade about the importance of supporting our military when they return from service. If you wish, you can read more about the project and organization here.
Saint James School is proud to support Ms. Lee and welcome her to the community by collecting items for her to use in her new home. Please be on the lookout for a list of items being requested, which will be sent home with students (and via e-mail) in the next week or so.
Mrs. Camposeo’s 3rd grade class is excited to announce the launch of their “Great Mail Race.” Students have been working hard on composing letters, which they recently mailed out to fifty different Catholic schools – one in each state across the country. The letters contained interesting facts about our school and the town of Manchester. Each letter also contained a questionnaire for recipients to fill out and send back to Saint James School.
Our 3rd graders are hoping to receive responses from all fifty states. The completed questionnaires will provide them with information about school schedules, length of the school day, field trips, student populations, special subjects, and town and state features. A map of the United States posted in the classroom will help students keep tabs on the returns, with pushpins being used to represent the areas that respond.
