Cherrydale/Jeannine Fundraiser Orders Due Tomorrow

Tomorrow (9/23) is the final due date for the Cherrydale/Jeannine catalog fundraiser.  Please return all order forms (top two copies only) and payment by Friday.  Checks should be payable to “St. James School” and we ask that you write your child’s name on the memo line of the check.

Tomorrow is also the final day to earn Crazy Creatures by turning in the incentive coupons.

Basketball and XC Challenge Due Tomorrow

Basketball: As a reminder, paperwork for anyone wishing to play basketball for SJS this year is due Friday (9/23).  Our school’s teams need to be formed early next week for scheduling purposes.  Your child may not be able to play this year if your paperwork comes in after Friday (depending on teams and fullness of rosters).  Information and paperwork can be found HERE.

Elementary XC Challenge: Parents of students in grades K – 5 that like to run, please consider entering your child in the town-wide Manchester Elementary School Cross Country Challenge in support of Team Saint James School!  RSVPs are due by Friday to receive a SJS XC Challenge T-Shirt.  Please click HERE for paperwork and details.   This is a really fun, well-run event! Questions can be e-mailed to parent volunteer Andrea Piotrowski at ampiotrowski@yahoo.com or Amy Guenther at aguenther@saintjamesschool.net.

Because of the firm deadlines, please double check with your child that they turned in their paperwork and it is not in their backpack, folder, or expandable.

Hot Wheels Physics

Earlier this week in science class, SJS students enjoyed a fun experiment as part of their lesson on velocity and the relationship between distance, speed, and time.  Using Hot Wheels cars, a Hot Wheels track, a measuring tape, and a stop watch, students used the formula of Speed = Distance/Time to explore and calculate the relationship between these 3 variables.

8th Graders Assist With TV Mass

Saint James School 8th Grade Students joined Father Carlson at the Archdiocese of Hartford’s TV studio in Prospect, Connecticut today as he Celebrated Mass for broadcast on Sunday.  A service offered by the Archdiocese of Hartford, the daily televised Mass reaches out primarily to the home-bound who have been disconnected from their local parish through illness or age.  The Mass taped today will air this Sunday at 5:00am and 10:00am on WCCT-TV (Channel 11 on COX, check local listings for other cable providers).  It will air throughout Connecticut as well as in parts of Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. It will also be played on the Archdiocese’s radio station, WJMJ at noon on Sunday.

Saint James 8th graders served as the readers and alter servers as well as singing in the choir and serving as the in-studio audience for the mass.  This unique experience also provided students an opportunity see how a television studio operates.

Special thanks to Father Carlson and the 8th grade teachers for helping make this fun experience possible for our students.
