Attention 5th Grade Parents

We are seeking student volunteers from the 5th grade to represent our school during the SJS children’s Mass at 9:00am on May 7, 2017 at St. James Church.  This is a very special honor as we show the parishioners (many of whom generously support our school) the exceptional students they are investing in.  Please check your schedule and email your child’s choice for service to  cndherr@cox.net sometime today.  We already have a student who has volunteered to be the reader, so we just need gift bearers and greeters.

Art Show/Ice Cream Social

The annual Saint James School Art Show & Ice Cream Social will be held on Tuesday, April 25th, at 6:30pm.  We hope to see you there to enjoy all the amazing works of art done by our Pre-K through 8th Grade students!

Book/Art Club

Yesterday, the book/art club read the book 3 Pandas Planting (about Earth Day ways to help save our Earth) as well as a National Geographic book filled with fun panda facts.  The group then made a clay sculpture of a panda as well as a panda painting.  Many thanks to Mrs. Carpenter and Mrs. Sabatella for sending in these cute pictures.

Box Tops Winner

Congratulations to the 4th grade on winning the final Box Tops contest of the year with over 900 Box Tops.  We appreciate everyone’s support – the students counted nearly 3800 Box Tops yesterday – which equates to approximately $380 for our school!

The 4th grade teachers will let their students know when the dress down day will occur.

SJS Soccer Starts Tonight

Saint James Soccer practice will begin tonight (Wednesday) at Charter Oak Park in Manchester.  Junior Varsity practice (Grades 3, 4 and 5) will be from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm and Varsity practice (Grades 6, 7 and 8) will be from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.  The game schedule for Saturday will follow shortly.

If you are not familiar with the area, Charter Oak Park is located across from Carter Chevrolet, at the intersection of Main Street and Charter Oak Street.  Parking is available in the South United Methodist Church/ Manchester Chamber of Commerce parking lot (entrance is located on Hartford Road).  Please use the crosswalk to cross the intersection (there is a “walk” button that can be used to stop traffic).  Parents are asked to accompany their child across the street as it is a very busy intersection.

Please be sure players wear proper shoes, shin guards, and bring an appropriate size soccer ball and a water bottle.  Please put your child’s name on the ball and water bottle.

Due Tomorrow! Father/Daughter Dance RSVP

Attached is the RSVP form for the annual Saint James School Father/Daughter dance.  Please return the bottom portion of the form and the admission fee by TOMORROW (April 20th).  Thank you to all the moms who signed up to volunteer the night of the dance already.  If you would like to help but have not reached out to our parent volunteer coordinator Jen Grohs yet, you can call or text her at (860) 670-0687.

Mrs. Moran’s 3rd Grade Class Dissects Owl Pellets

As we mentioned before break, SJS 3rd graders have been learning about small animals and habitats as part of their science lessons. Students are working on researching, writing, and illustrating a short book about an assigned animal. Today Mrs. Moran’s class dissected (sanitized) owl “pellets,” as they learned about owls and what they eat (click pictures to enlarge).  The kids were excited to have retired SJS 3rd Grade teacher Mrs. Camposeo come back to join in the fun!
