Christmas Concert 2017

Congratulations to all the performers at last night’s SJS Christmas Concert on an exceptional performance! Below are a few of our favorite pictures from the concert (special thanks to Mrs. Fiereck for these)!! Mrs. Fiereck was also kind enough to post the full gallery of pictures she took at last night’s concert HERE for your viewing enjoyment.

Cookies & Cards Christmas Outreach

HSA GIVES would like to kick of the holiday season by spreading holiday cheer at The Village at Buckland Court with the “Cookies and Cards” community outreach event.  We invite you to join us at The Village (432 Buckland Rd, South Windsor) from 3:00-4:30pm on Saturday, December 9 to deliver Christmas cards and homemade cookies to the residents as we listen to the SJS choir sing their favorite carols!

To prepare for the event, students will be making cards for the residents during art class, and we are looking for volunteers to bake cookies.  We will need 55 dozen cookies and would be grateful for your help with baking.  Cookie donations can be brought to the school office on Friday, December 8.

If you are able to make cookies and/or you would like to attend the event, please fill out the event form (found here).  Please contact Kerry Caldwell with questions at kmcaldwell@gmail.com.

1st Graders Perform Word Surgery

Yesterday, first grade students enjoyed a lesson on contractions…with a fun twist.  Wearing cool surgical masks and official doctor badges, students performed surgery on words such as “Can Not” and “You Will” to turn them into contractions.  After removing the unnecessary parts, the patients (i.e. the contractions) were put back together using a bandage and an apostrophe.  The kids had so much fun learning with this lesson!

XC Uniforms

We still have a few students that have not returned their cross country uniform.  Please bring it to the office tomorrow.  There is a charge for uniforms that are not returned in good condition.

December 6th Book/Art Club Permission Slip

Attached is the permission slip for the next Book/Art Club. If you would like your child to participate (grades 1 – 3), please return the permission slip and activity fee to the school by tomorrow (Wednesday, 11/29).

SJS Students Win 37th Annual Szopka Festival

This past weekend, a number of Saint James School students entered the beautiful Polish Nativity Castles (“Szopka”) they have been working on after school into the 37th annual Szopka competition at the Polish Cultural Club in Hartford.  Students, with much guidance from middle school teacher Ms. Carol Oleasz, put a lot of time and effort into making these beautiful palaces depicting the Holy Family and Baby Jesus.

We are excited to announce that Saint James students won first, second, and third place as well as honorable mention!  The winners are as follows:

1st Place: 4th Graders Molly Melia & Alivia Roy

3rd Place: 6th Graders Brendan Guenther & Carson Herr

Honorable Mention: Madeline Dube (5th Grade), Lilly Puzio (4th Grade), and Irene Milite (4th Grade)
