Grade 4 Biography Reports

Public speaking is just one of the many important skills that students practice regularly at Saint James School. For this month’s book report, 4th grade students read a biography, made an informational poster, and presented their research to the class. Dressing as the subject of their report was optional, but those who dressed up enjoyed being “in character” the entire day.

Cookies and Card Outreach

Due to Saturday’s snow, the Cookies & Card event was unfortunately canceled; however, the cookies and cards were still delivered to the residents of The Village to enjoy on Sunday.  Thank you to Mrs. Sabatella for helping our students make beautiful cards and to all the families that helped bake 60 dozen cookies!  We look forward to trying the event again next year!

Attention Basketball Parents and Parents of 7th & 8th Graders – Volunteers Needed

Our basketball season is officially under way!  The SJS concession stand is going to be up and running this year and we need your help.

We need parents to be present at the concession stand and oversee the student volunteers.  At least one adult is needed to be at concessions while it is open.  7th & 8th grade student volunteers can work at the stand and receive volunteer hours for their time.  Please consider coming in for an hour or so with your student in order to help them complete their hours and help the school at the same time.  The stand cannot run without an adult present.  You do not need to have a student playing in the basketball program in order to volunteer.  All of the profit from the proceeds go directly to SJS.

Currently we need volunteers for Saturday, Dec 16 at the following times:

11:30-12:30
12:30-1:30
1:30-2:30
2:30-3:30
3:30-4:30

If you or your student are interested in volunteering, please email Andrea Piotrowski at ampiotrowski@yahoo.com.  Thank you!

Book & Art Club Fun

The kids enjoyed another wonderful after-school book & art club with Mrs. Carpenter and Mrs. Sabatella last Wednesday.  The group read “Snow What Fun” and then created their their own winter scene in a plastic snow globe.

St. Nicholas Day Tradition

In keeping with the annual tradition, Saint James School K – 8th grade students left one shoe outside their classroom yesterday in celebration of St. Nicholas day.  A popular tradition in Northern Europe, St. Nick celebrations include leaving a shoe by the fireplace, in which children later find a treat or gift (the origin of our American Christmas stockings).

In addition to the fun that goes along with this special tradition at Saint James, it is also a time that our students learn about Saint Nicholas, who was renowned for his great kindness and generous aid to those in distress.
