After an incredible 46 years serving as the head of Saint James School’s instrumental music program, Mr. Corcoran has announced that he will retire from teaching at the end of this academic year.

Mr. Corcoran joined the SJS community in 1979, when he was hired by Sister Patricia to establish an instrumental music program at our school. Since then, he has shared his love for music with hundreds of students—a number of which were/are children of his former SJS instrumental music students.

Under Mr. Corcoran’s leadership, the band program has long been a source of pride for Saint James School. With one of the largest student representations at all-state concerts and numerous alumni continuing to play in high school and beyond, audiences are always moved by how well our students play.  It is not uncommon for Mr. Corcoran’s former students to go on to win accolades in music at East Catholic or other local high schools.

To honor Mr. Corcoran, we will host a drop-in reception on May 27th in our school gymnasium. We invite all current and former instrumental music students and their families to stop by anytime between 6:00 PM and 6:45 PM to help us celebrate this milestone. Kindly RSVP HERE to help us plan for the event.

Please share this information with anyone you know who graduated from Saint James School (or other area Catholic schools in which he also taught over the years) and was part of the instrumental music program. We’ll also be posting this on our social media channels soon for families to share.

Please note that Mr. Corcoran will still offer summer music lessons this summer.
