Lent is a time for us to make self-sacrifices in order to aid others. Our faith calls on us to make this a priority and, as such, we are  in Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten Rice Bowls collection.

Last week our Pre-K through Grade 8 students brought home “Rice Bowls”. Our student council members visited each classroom today to talk a little bit about what the Rice Bowls are and the support they provide. We hope you will have a conversation at home as well about how the Rice Bowl can be filled with change to be collected to support the needs of others who are less fortunate in our world.  Maybe this change can be earned for acts of kindness or other tasks performed for others at home or in your family’s community.  For more information families can visit https://www.crsricebowl.org/.  There is also a pamphlet inside the “bowl” that has more information about the countries that receive aid.

Did you know:   Just $1.00 a day for the 40 days of Lent could feed a family for a month,  buy 2 years of seed for a farmer, or provide 1 emergency kit for refugees.

Students should bring their full Rice Bowl back to the classroom by Monday, April 18, 2022 to contribute to the classroom totals.

If parents would prefer to donate online they can use the following link to do so:  SJS Rice Bowl Donations 2022

Last year, Saint James School raised $2,000 for Catholic Relief Services through this drive.  Thank you for participating!
