Today our 2nd graders (who have been learning about the pilgrims, Wampanoag Indians, and the first Thanksgiving) made homemade butter by shaking glass jars containing heavy cream.  After saying grace, the students had the chance to taste the butter on cornbread and discuss their Thanksgiving plans with their teachers and peers.
