Varsity Girls Coach’s Update

After a slow start to last night’s game, the SAINT JAMES GIRLS VARSITY team took at early 6-0 lead and never looked back, defeating St. Tims by 20 points. The first ½ was uninspired. Nevertheless, SAINT JAMES took a 8-5 lead into the halftime break. After scoring 16 consecutive points to start the third (utilizing our full court press ), Saint James rolled into the final period up by 19. Shea led the team with 12 points followed by Jillian’s 10 and Allie’s 4. Shannon and Kaitlyn each added a hoop while Faith hit a free throw to round out the scoring. Sammy led the team with some sharp passing had 4 assists while Allie, Shea, Jillian and Angie had 1 per.

Defensively, Alyssa continued her strong inside play ripping down 9 rebounds. Meanwhile, Jillian used her offensive rebounding skill to create multiple baskets on put-backs (Jillian had 9 offensive rebounds ….10 total boards for the game ). Angie collected 5 boards while Sammy and Shea each had 5 from the guard position. Gabby, Kaitlyn and Faith all grabbed 3 boards while Sarah had 1 to go with 1 steal. Shea continued her thievery, stealing the ball 9 times from St. Tims. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn and Angie had 3 each. Shannon, Allie, Alyssa and Emma had 2 steals each while Gabby, Faith, Sammy each had 1.

Varsity Girls Season record: 10-0

Health Reminder

‘Tis the season for severe colds, fevers, and the dreaded flu.

As a reminder, please be respectful to your child’s teacher and fellow classmates by keeping your child home if they have a fever or are experiencing other signs of illness.  The CDC recommends that adults or children stay home from work or school at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever and are not taking fever-reducing drugs (i.e., Tylenol, Motrin, etc.).

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Thank You

Mrs. Zorger would like to send a big thank you to all our SJS friends and families for adhering to the morning drop-off/afternoon pick-up policies outlined in her January 2nd email.  We have seen great improvements with the flow of morning drop-off over the last week.

Basketball Games @ SJS Tonight

Tonight, the Girls Varsity and the Boys Varsity Gold basketball teams will play Southington Catholic at home (SJS gym). The girls will play at 6:30pm and the boys will play at 7:30pm.  All are welcome to come cheer on our SJS players (alongside our SJS Cheerleaders, who will be cheering tonight)!

These same teams will also play tomorrow night (same times) at Saint Gabriel School in Windsor.

Good luck Sabers!!

Volunteers Needed: Saturday Jan 5th at SJS GYM

Twice a year our school hosts the full slate of the league’s JV basketball games.  As such we are responsible to run the Scoreboard and Score book and handle Breezeway door entrance fee throughout the day.  The monies collected for the door goes a long way towards helping keep our Basketball player fee’s down and mitigate end of the year party expenses.

Our Boys JV team kicks off the games at 9 am and our Girls JV team has the last game at 3 pm.  There are 7 games in total.  We are hoping our Varsity Boys and Girls can sign up to run the clock and scorebook and then get Parents to volunteer to run the door and we will be selling  bottled water.

The link below will be used to help organize the volunteers.  Kids that volunteer will be credited for service hours so perhaps they can pair up with a school mate and help out for an hour or two. We only take a door fee for 2 dates throughout the year at Saint James so please take a look at this link if you can volunteer.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Shop Rite

If you or a family member frequent ShopRite (any location), please remind them to register their card for SJS (must be done each year).  Our will receive credit for free classroom supplies.
