Reminder: Saint James School Cross Country (Grades 5-8)

As most of you are thinking of sun, fun, and no school, what better time to don your running shoes and explore the great outdoors!

I would like to encourage students entering 5th – 8th grade to come out in September for the SJS Cross Country Team. There will be two practices per week with a competition on either a Friday or Saturday. Practices will take place on Tuesday afternoons following school and Saturday mornings. This is the first year that cross country has been introduce to 5^th graders in the hopes of generating interest to the program at an earlier age.

Attached you will find a summer training schedule for those who are inspired to come ready to run in September. I hope to find many new recruits eager to join the Saint James cross country team! The Manchester Running Club sponsors the Thursday Night Track & Field Series at Manchester High School, July 10-31^st. This is open to all ages and consists of various running, jumping and throwing events. Also, East Catholic offers summer sports programs which include boys & girls cross country, August 11^th-15^th. This is open to all students entering 5-9 grade.

Parents – attached is a health form that will need to be completed before any practice or competition. The season begins quickly, so it would be wise to have all forms completed prior to the beginning of school. Also a $35.00 Cross Country fee is required before participation.

I would welcome any assistants to aid with practices and/or competitions. We will need parents and/or assistants to help in transporting students to and from a local location for practice. Please feel free to contact me this summer if interested.

Reminder: 2014 Annual Fund Campaign Now Underway

Several weeks ago all parents, guardians, alumni, staff, and other friends of the school should have received a letter from Mrs. Kanute (along with the Spring SJS Community Newsletter) outlining the three projects that this year’s annual fund donations will support. Annual fund donations provide our school with funding for much-needed capital improvement projects that are not covered by tuition. This year, donations will help defray the cost of replacing the breezeway roof, replacing another set of windows, and upgrading our technology infrastructure to prepare for new classroom technology coming in the fall.

For those families and friends who have already donated, Thank You again for your support!! If you have not yet made a (tax-deductible) donation, we hope that you will consider helping Saint James School stay strong for the future by making a contribution today. Field Day 2014 Pictures

Yesterday pre-kindergarten through 7th grade students enjoyed a day of fun and friendly competition at the annual Saint James School Field Day. Thank you to the many parent volunteers, 7th grade students, and even some of our recent 8th grade graduates who helped run the activities and kept the fun going all day long.

$1.00 Dress Down Day This Wednesday 6/11

There will be a $1.00 Dress Down day this Wednesday to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The dress down day and charity selection are compliments of Alivia (kindergarten) and Taylor (2nd grade), the winners of lunch with the Principal from the 2014 Gala. As part of their afternoon with Mrs. Kanute, they were able to pick a special activity for the whole school.

Please remember, per our school handbook, the following guidelines apply for dress down days:

Clothing must not have indecent writing or pictures; inappropriate slogans or advertisements
Revealing clothing is not allowed (including short shorts, halter tops, half shirts, tank tops, and see-through tops).
Waistbands must not sag below the waist. Pants legs must not drag on the floor.
High heels, platform shoes, flip-flops, Crocs, and shoes with no backs are not allowed.
Clothing must not be torn, ragged, or have holes

Congratulations SJS Varsity Soccer

Congratulations to the the Saint James Sapphire soccer team (8th grade) for winning the Catholic School Soccer league Final Four Tournament on Saturday morning (picture below). They beat Corpus Christi 3-2 and Beat St. Paul 3-0. The Sapphire team also finished the season undefeated. Coach Lachcik of the Saint James Sapphire team received the 2014 Catholic School Soccer League Sportsmanship award.

The St. James Yellow Team (6th/7th grades) finished 4th in the overall tournament. The beat St. Christopher on penalty kicks, lost to St. Bridget 3-1, and beat St. Edwards 2-1.

Congratulations to all our teams on an outstanding season!

Reminder: Field Day 2014

Field Day for Pre-K through 7th Grade will be held tomorrow – Tuesday, June 10th – from 9:15 to 1:30 (Raindate: Thursday, June 12th).

Please note, there are two changes to the flyer that was sent home: Hot Lunch IS available on Field Day and the 6th Grade should wear GRAY shirts (not pink).

What to Wear: Students should wear their GYM SHORTS and sneakers for Field Day as well as a shirt in the following color:

Pre-K — White

K — Red

Congratulations to the Saint James School Class of 2014! Below are a few pictures taken today – our 8th graders last day as Saint James students. Many of these boys and girls have been a part of our school since they were three, four, or five years old. They have grown up before our eyes and we could not be more proud of all their accomplishments! We wish the Class of 2014 much success as they now move to the next phase of their academic careers. We look forward to hearing about all your achievements in high school and in the years beyond. May God bless you now and always!

Attention Moms Attending The Mother/Son Event This Sunday

The coordinators of this year’s Mother/Son event would like to remind all attendees to print and fill out a copy of Star Hill’s Activity Waiver to bring with you on Sunday. The form can be printed HERE. Please fill out the basic information and sign the waiver.

As a reminder, our group will have use of the pool as well as the athletic center so please remember to bring a swimsuit and towel for you and your son(s) if you will be using the pool and everyone should remember to wear sneakers.

We look forward to seeing all the Moms and Sons on Sunday for this fun event!

4th Grade Science Fair

Congratulations to the Saint James School 4th graders on an amazing job at the 4th grade science fair. There were so many unique and creative ideas! Students did a wonderful job presenting their findings to the younger and older grades as well as the many parents, grandparents, and staff in attendance.
