On Tuesday, Saint James School kindergarten – grade 5 students enjoyed a special walking field trip to Cheney Hall to see American Songbook, a performance celebrating American history through a timeline of music. Professional performers guided students on a journey from tribal songs of early Native Americans to the powerful anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, bringing history to life through song and storytelling.
This unique experience was made possible through funding from the Saint James School Foundation’s annual allocation to our school (which supports technology, tuition assistance, and special programs). A huge thank you to Cheney Hall Executive Director and SJS parent volunteer Dwayne Harris for organizing this fun experience for our students and for prefacing the show with an age-appropriate, educational talk about the performing arts, acting, and theatre etiquette. Thank you also to the SJS teachers when sent in pics for us to share!
