Last week, under the guidance of their middle school science teacher, Ms. Utz, SJS 8th grade students dissected a starfish as part of their science studies.  Since 8th grade science includes a focuses on physics, this lesson explored how a starfish’s water vascular system operates entirely through hydraulic pressure. Students traced how water enters through the madreporite and travels through canals to pressurize the ampullae and tube feet.

Our 6th and 7th grade students will also participate in dissection projects connected to their science curriculum in the coming weeks.
